Days trip from Basel...some planned...need help in some.

Bonjour!!

I am visiting a friend in Basel along with my husband for 14days & would love to have some expert Advise. (Thanks to all who have helped me in the past reach this stage of planning)

8th july- land at Zurich airport and head towards Basel, we will relax and maybe roam around Basel only. PLEASE SUGGEST what can be done on this day, some nice reasonably priced restaurants and some good hang around places?

9th July - PLEASE Suggest a good day trip, we are thinking of Colmar.

10-July- still not decided, PLEASE SUGGEST, (we have a Switzerland day pass for this day) maybe Rhine falls and Zurich?

11th July- we leave for montreux, attend the jazz festival, explore that area, and stay in vevey for a night

12th july- explore that area again, chillon, laussane, we come back to Basel late evening. PLEASE Suggest good reasonably priced restaurants in that area and thing to do.

13th July -14th July - we plan to visit Lucerne and also explore some mountain area around? Which one do u suggest? Mt. Titlis or Pilatus? Is it all doable in a day? We can stay in Lucerne on 13th night also, if its worth it or do Lucerne one day and some Mountain the other day, PLS SUGGEST

15th morning we leave for Paris from Basel.

19th noon we come back to Basel. Rest of the day? Not planned? PLS SUGGEST

20-21st July we hire a car and do a road trip, where?? Not yet decided, PLS SUGGEST

22nd morning we leave for Zurich airport & back home...

Bookings Done already:

Paris hotel for 4nights

Vevey hotel for 1night

Day country passes for switzerland for 10th, 11th, 12th & 14th July

Basel-Paris-Basel TGV

Thanks to all in advance!

9th July: Colmar is defintely worth a daytrip. Do that!

10th July with beautiful wheather: Go to Wilderswil and with the train up to the Schynige Platte. See the worldfamous mountains around Jungfrau, the region, where Bollywood films are made.

19th July: evening. Enjoy the international athmosphere of the Basel Tattoo. Blend with the locals, have a Raclette (melted swiss cheese and potatoes) and listen to the music. Even if you have no ticket it is great fun.

I would do the trip to the Rhine falls with the car, and explore also the regions at Lake of Constance, and on your way backthe town Stein am Rhein.

Finally a daytrip by train to the city of Freiburg in Germany is very recommendable. Only 35 minutes by train from Basel.

And don't forget the cities of bern ( on your way back from Schynige Platte) and Luzern( if the wheather were not ideal for a mountain trip)

For then old basel city center, which is worth the trip alone, I send you an itinerary which you could do with the help of your friend:

Take no 2 to Kunstmuseum (art museum). and then take your tour through Rittergasse, Chatedral's place , the almost 1000 year old Münster with Pfalz behind it (Great view on the Rhine behind the cathedral ). Continue through Augustinergasse with Augustiner fountain, then turn left to - Martinsgasse with great Barock buldings. At the fountain turn left down the stairs to the Market square, visit the huge red Town Hall and (on the other side of the place) slip through Sattelgasse, Schneidergasse to a very narrow lane IMBERGÄSSLEIN up to Nadelberg, turn left and after 100 yards walk down a few meters in Spalenberg and enter on the right the - Gemsberg , where you find well preserved houses in different styles from all centuries, beginning in the 13th. On the upper end of Gemsberg turn right into Heuberg and walk 300 yards to a place called Lyss. There you will see in some distance the mighty Spalentor built in 1490 (now being renovated) . From there take the tram or bus back to your place.

@MAETZLI thanks a lot for so much of info! I really appreciate! Some more questions.

How far is wilderswil from Basel by train? 1.5hrs? And then how far is Schynige Platte from Wilderswil?

Also how is this different than MT. titlis?

From Basel SBB to the top it is 3 1/2 hours. You have got to be early. The trip itself is Long, but full of scenery. ok, in the evening you'll be exhausted. Really only worth for GOOD wheather.

Check all the timetables for Switzerland here:

Mount Titlis is in a completely different area (Engelberg). No lakes. Not so famous mountains. Also beautiful.
