We are travelling from Basel to Amsterdam at the end of March but we are having real difficulty in finding local accommodation for the night before we join the cruise everything appears to be sold out apart from backpackers and YMCA any ideas on what is a reasonable distance to travel by taxi without breaking the bank.
Hi, welcome to TA! Your dates must conflict with a huge jewelry and watch trade convention called Baselworld. Have you tried Kayak to see what they have? Basel is not a large city so most any hotel will be no more than 20 minutes by taxi and maybe 30 by public transportation to the cruise ship dock. Of course, when there is a huge convention such as this one, most hotels do not have any reduced rate rooms.
How are you getting to Basel? If you are flying into Zurich, you could easily stay there overnight as it is just an hour by train to Basel from Zurich.
I would not waste any time seeing if you can find a room in Basel as any vacant rooms will just fill up. If you are flying into Zurich, it won't be a problem to get a room there.
Hope this helps.Edited: 7:14 pm, October 16, 2013
