Terni, Todi, Assisi or orvieto?

We are a family of 5 w/ young teenagers travelling by car in November and have two nights to spend within driving distance to Fiumicino. We are coming from Several days in the Amalfi Coast and would love advice on an Umbrian/Tuscan Hills town in that area. Thanks for any advice!

Orvieto has a splendid cathedral but it pales into insignificance compared with Assisi and the upper and lower churches of the Basilica of San Francesco with their sensational frescoes.

In November the weather is not so good so you need a town with some "life" for Teenagers and somewhere to "shelter" if its colder.

Assisi will be busy but it is very touristy - mostly based naturally round religious themes - St Francis and the basilica.

Spello nearby may be more interesting but again quieter at this time of year ..... Orvieto is larger and attractive and has a more vibrant evening scene and more shops/restaurants

Todi will probably be too quiet in November, nice for a day visit but not to stay

Don't forget the historic city centre of Perugia itself which will have more happening re shops and of course there is a large student population.

Orvieto might also be a consideration - It is closer to Rome for a day trip and right off the highway (A1)

Additionally there are places to see that will appeal to both you and your teenagers - Patrick's Well right outside the walls of the town, The underground tour, The cathedral is magnificent also. Assisi is truly lovely but Orvieto will satisfy both adults and teenagers, and the distance makes for a nice day trip that won't be spent in the car.

Another area that vmay appeal to all of you is the Viterbo/Tarquinia area- not far from the airport and a treasure trove of Etruscan tombs and treasures. Kids should enjoy visiting the tombs etc (they seem almost self-guided)as will adults. I have done some planning on our September trip and wanted to be close to the airport our last couple of days and this is the area we decided on - you are close to the Etruscan sites, near the ocean and within and houtr or so of the airport.

Assisi is NOT touristy in November! In fact, there are few people here.
