Fly into Pisa or Florence?

We are headed to La Spezia. Should we fly to Pisa or Florence from the USA? Thank you.

Pisa is slightly closer, but it does not matter much.

I would suggest that you do not stay in La Spezia. It is not unpleasant, but it is totally unremarkable. There are much better towns or villages nearby.

Pisa. It has a very easy connection to the train to La Spezia or to the autostrada. Florence is a further away, and the airport more crowded. It is also more subject to flight delays due to geography and runways.

La Spezia is a pleasant city, but it is short on monuments and old Italy romance. There are several under-rated museums and a nice waterfront.

If you are using La Spezia as a base to explore Cinque Terre without staying in the towns themselves, there are probably better options. We stayed in Moneglia years ago and loved it. It had its own beach and was a 15 minute local train to CT.

I'd agree about flying into Pisa, you're just closer - but depending on where you're flying from, check options into both airports and see what works best for you!

Again, thank you all for the information. We will be flying in Pisa. We have a home exchange in La Spezia and will use it as our home base.

basically it doesn't matter -- Pisa is an airport of Florence -- it all hinges on your other connections and on the price of the flight -- take the one that is cheaper
