I will be in Florence 3/21 and would like to see sunset at Piazzale Michaelangelo. Sunset should be around 6.30pm so I would like to arrive around 6 to soak it all in. I have seen others post that it is a reasonable walk. Our hotel is near the Uffizi. Does anybody have an estimate of the length of time that walk would take? Is it a nice walk or would we be better off taking a bus or taxi?

We stayed at a hotel near Ponte Vecchio and it took us about 30 mins to walk to Piazzale Michelangelo. It was a nice walk. A bit uphill near the end but wasn't that hard - you get to rest as you take in the view.
You might enjoy the vespers - gregorian chant like - within the ephemeral acoustics and archetecture of San Miniato del Monte, a short walk from the parking lot sunset view point. The vespers schedule can be found by the great and powerful Google. It is a great experience. (the vespers, not The Google, sorry Sergey)
…then after your eyes have been sweetened by the sunset and your spirits lifted by the chanting, walk back down to San Niccolò, a neighborhood known for its lively aperitivo scene! Our favorites are Fuori Porta and Rifrullo.
We were in Florence last weekend and enjoyed sunset in Fiesole one day and another at top of the bell tower (the view iwaswell worth the 400+steps climbing).

I cannot suggest the vespers at San Miniato del Monte too highly. Make sure to check the time as they change summer/winter. We actually took a cab up from near the train station - much further than the Uffizi - for 10 Euros and came back on the bus. (You need to get your bus tickets before going up as there is no place to buy them there.) The view is going to be a highlight of your trip.
