Firenze Card and public transportation

I know that you can use the bus system for free with your Firenze Card, but does it first have to be validated before you use the card on public transportation?

You hold the car up against the validating machine, there should be an electronic sensor that will detect and log your usage. I assume this will start the card's usage timer off if you haven't used it anywhere else.

Just for info, the card is not valid on the airport bus.

Firenze Card can also be used on the tram that goes from Santa Maria Novella Station to Scandicci. So if you find yourself craving a little green (trees are few and far between in the city center), take the tram to Le Cascine, Florence's Central Park. It's only a few minutes' ride.

The clock starts ticking the second you swipe your card the very first time, no matter whether it's at a museum, church, tram or bus. So swipe carefully!

I have to add, we spent 4 days in Florence and used the Firenze card, and the main sights are so compact we walked everywhere. It never even occurred to us to take a bus anywhere or look for a cab other than getting from the airport to our hotel and then back to the bus station when we left.

How does the card work with regard to the times you get if booking directly with the museums?

i.e if you book the museum direct you get a time, but don't with the card?

Do you have to queue with the card.

If you have the card, you don't need a reservation you just go when you like and you get to skip the main queue. Just look for the Firenze card sign and go to that entrance. Worst case scenario you will have to wait 5 -10 mins at the Uffizi or Accademia, everywhere else you will be straight in.

As peggypatch said, with the card, you do not need to reserve times. Most sites had an entrance for Firenze card holders and you walked right in. We walked into the Uffizi and Accademia immediately upon showing up.
