Planning a trip to Italy. Spending a few nights in Rome and then heading to Tuscany. Interested in visiting Sienna and south of Sienna, Pienza, Montalcino,Montepulciano, etc. How many days should we give ourselves to explore before heading to Venice? Also would Pienza be a good place to use as our base?

PIenza would be a fine base...You really need a car to explore Tuscany efficiently.

Pienza is fantastic and will serve as a great base!

How many days should you give yourselves to explore the area? I would say three full days would be the minimum. If you can spare five, that would be better, much better.
