Sicily - week in June - where to stay?

We are looking to go to Sicily for a week at the beginning of June. We would like to rent a villa but I have no idea where we should be looking to base ourselves. We will hire a car for a week but we would like to be able to walk to restaurants in the evening. Suggestions gratefully received!

Welcome to Sicily Needaholiday_13!

Where will you arrive and depart Sicily?

Perhaps begin with Think Sicily....

I would look at marina di modica, sampierre or plaia grande all in the province of ragusa, simply stunning white beaches, water shallow, heaps of sun and lots of rentals, not to busy or expensive in June.

Fly into catania get a hire car and enjoy.

Is this your first visit to Sicily Needaholiday_13?

Are you anticipating a beach holiday?

If not, you would surely look to base in an area that would offer more sites and attractions than small coastal villages.

The Michelin Green Guide ranks destinations, and may help you decide what you would like to see and do.

Your location would also very much depend on where you would arrive and depart Sicily - Catania is the preferred airport for Southeastern Sicily, but if arriving in Palermo, Southeastern Sicily isn't the most convenient area to reach, and with only a week, you would want to minimise your driving time.

Prego haro,

If you intend self-catering more than a villa, perhaps consider Siracusa and Casesicilia!

Ortigia is a phenomenal base and you would be able to walk to restaurants in the evening.

Enjoy your planning!

There is much to see in Sicily so where you stay depends on what you want to see. Our favorite place is the seaside town of Cefalù in the northeastern part of the island, near Palermo. It is a medieval town with many fantastic restaurants, the Duomo, easy day trips around Palermo, Monreale, into the hillsides. If you want Greek ruins then staying near Syracusa would work for you. My suggestion is to pick one part of the island and immerse yourself there rather than trying to drive all over. You will have a wonderful time!

Thank you for all the suggestions - I hadn't received updates so only just getting around to reviewing these. We are looking for a relaxing holiday where we can go do some day trips but otherwise enjoy the sun and sea and Sicily seems like a good option.
