picking the best seaside area for a week

Would like to rent a house for 4 aduls for a week on the seaside.

Heard that Trapani , balestrate, or Capo d'orlando are less spoilt areas. Is this true?

Is there a difference in climate on the west or east or north coast?

And what about mosquitoes.

Anyone any suggestions? Any help?

Thanks!

What airport are you flying into catania or palermo?

Welcome to Sicily haro!

There are three airports - Trapani, Palermo, or Catania!

Do you plan to hire a car?

When do you plan to arrive?

Summer is the worst period for mosquitoes.

All warm climate areas have mosquitoes, so if you're especially susceptible, take appropriate precautions. You can buy mosquito plug-ins at supermarkets.

The Golfo di Castellammare area (Castellammare del Golfo, Balestrate, Marina di Alcamo....) is not your top pick – This area is depressed, the beaches are dirty, and the area frequently has an issue with trash.

Consider Trapani, Capo d'Orlando, or even Cefalù with flights to and from Trapani or Palermo, and if you plan to hire a car, also consider the southwest around Selinunte.

The seas along the northern coast (Tyrrhenian) tend to be a bit warmer.

And if you could arrive in Catania, also consider Sicily's southeast - Half the Bandiera Blu beaches in Sicily are located in Ragusa province. Siracusa and Ragusa's beaches are very local and lovely.

Thanks so much Vagabonda. Very helpful information!!

Planning on half till end June. So the story about mosquitoes sounds no good.

Yes would rent a car.

Can fly to either palermo or catania.

Do you know anything about trustworthy rental companies?

Saw casa in sicilia, but no references anywhere.

Prego haro,

June is a wonderful month to visit Sicily for a beach holiday – The beach season formally begins with full services in June, but beaches aren’t as crowded in June as during July and August.

With a car, if you’d like more local areas, then consider Southwestern or Southeastern Sicily - trip to Palermo, then Ragusa or Siracusa in September>:

Price shouldn’t be your only concern with a car hire in Sicily. It’s very important to hire from a reputable and reliable company, not solely because of billing concerns, but also for road service and support in case of a problem.

Book your vehicle from a broker who deals with internationally known suppliers. There are reliable brokers like AutoEurope, Italy Auto Rental, (Kemwell), and Gemüt.

When booking your vehicle, ask about the supplier and avoid Maggiore, Autoeuropa (not AutoEurope), Sicily by Car, Locauto, Dollar, Thrifty, Advantage....

Vagabonda, I now understand that I was not clear about the rental companies. I meant renting a house, not a car.

Car I usually book through the well established companies.

Casa In Sicilia has houses for rent.

That was what I was asking about.

Apologies for the misunderstanding haro –

In towns, you would find apartments - Casesicilia in Siracusa rents appartamenti per vacanza.

You may find these definitions helpful.

DiCasaInSicilia rents houses -

Experencies wioth Di Casa in Sicilia?:

There is a difference between renting from an agency and an online rental site like these popular sites, Holiday Lettings, VRBO, HomeAway, Homelidays, Holiday-Rentals, Home Away, or Owner’s Direct….

Online rental sites are listing websites, not companies. Since you would rent from the owner of the property, experiences would vary from rental to rental, and from owner to owner. Some rental agencies also list on these rental sites.

It's good to ask for references and also to purchase trip insurance.

If you’re renting directly from an owner, it’s important to select a villa that has been advertised for a number of years and has reviews written by previous guests over a long period of time.

You might contact modicasa in the Ragusa area or Sicilian Experience around Cefalù.
