We love archeology and good food, is Sardinia a good choice?

We are seriously considering Sardinia but do enjoy old archeological sites, would probabley hire a car and enjoy good food. Would Sardinia fit the bill or would Sicily or Corsica be better. Would appreciate some advice. Thanks

You couldn't make a better choice.

Everyone who is interested in archeology should visit Sardinia at least once simply because of the unique Nuraghic civilisations that existed on the island in the bronze age. Many examples remain, the best being Su Nuraxi at Barumini, north of Cagliari and Santu Antine at Toralba, near Sassari. There is also the amazing village at Monte Tiscali if you fancy a mountain ramble. There are also the Domus de Janas (fairy houses) and "Giant's Tombs".

Apart from that there are many examples of Roman and Punic remains, including very well preserved towns at Nora and Tharros, not to mention Sant Antioco.

Pisan Architecture features prominently too.

As for food, Alghero, Cagliari, Sassari, Oristano and Nuoro boast some of the finest restaurants in the Med. In fact, anywhere you go, it is very difficult to eat badly.

Sardinia is the open air Museum in Mediterranean sea

All over you have to discovery a very treasure - We have turn many times in the middle of the island and the best site - in my opinion - is the area near Laconi\ Villanovaforru - good accomodations & food

not so much expensive's

Now a voice from a non-Sardinia based person...but who can only confirm what said above.

That said, I wouldnt insert Corsica in your list of "other options"

Sicily of course, Crete, but not Corsica.
