Any hotels/B & B on May 31

I will be travelling to Venice from Rome on May 31 and I am trying to find a hotel/B&B and even apts. It seems most of them are fully booked for May 31. Is there an event or something going on?

There is a lot of discussion about staying in Venice Vs Mestre. In my case the difference is about €150. Is it worth staying in Mestre to save about €100 to €150?

Thanks

May is peak season and so you need to book far in advance which may be why you are having trouble finding accommodation. I think it may be Biennale which would explain the booked hotels. If you stay in Mestre, you will need to take the train to Venice proper every day which can dull down the experience of Venice. If you can afford it, it is much better to staynon the island of Venice as there really isnt anything to see in Mestre anyway.

Its the opening of the Biennale - the city is very very busy. Try looking ( if you haven't alreay on expedia or venere and see if they come up with anything. I refuse to get drawn into the Venice vs Mestre discussion, however in my opinion it is better to stay in the city itself if possible.

You have left it late for May anyway, if you look at www.venere.com you can put the dates and budget in and see what is available

o try to stay in V enice, it does not have to be that more expensive,

The last week of May is the inauguration of the Biennale, so it is a very busy period. The differences between Venice and Mestre in that period will be very accentuated.

Yes, it's worth staying in Mestre to save €150. Below are five excellent, inexpensive hotels near or opposite the train station in Mestre that come with a bountiful free buffet breakfast. Have a look at the TripAdvisor reviews by people who recently stayed at these hotels.

The Best Western Hotel Bologna, directly in front of the Mestre railway station.

Thanks everyone for your help. Based on everyone's suggestion my preference is also to stay in Venice and I have e-mailed two more Apts and B&B that seemed to have availability. I will wait two more days to see if I can find a room in Venice. However, I am not paying €100 more and I will resort to booking in Mestre.

Waiting for some good luck.

Could not find any B&B or Apt in Venice for May 31. Ended up splitting the stay between Mestre and Venice

May 31 Mestre 4* hotel

June 1 Venice B& B (Mestre Hotel price +€80)

It is a hassle but I can experience both places
