Train from Venice to Florence

Does anyone know which train to take, is it from Mestre or from Santa Lucia and how do you even get to the Mestre train station from Venice and is it a long ride? Thanks

Almost all trains start in Venezia S Lucia station and call at Venezia Mestre a few minutes later. It takes around two hours on the fast trains.

See www.trenitalia.com for dates to June 8, clicking the British flag at the top first for English. Adjust the 'hour' for your desired departure time, e.g. put '13' for 13.00.

Mestre station is on the mainland. If you are departing from Venice, use Santa Lucia.

St Lucia is the one you want! Easy train ride. Fast train about 1 hour

The fastest trains between Venice and Florence take just over two hours. This is going from Venice S. L. to Florence. Unless you're staying on the mainland and not on the islands you'll want to leave from Venice Santa Lucia.

I don't know what train Mariasull takes, but I have never made it in less than two hours between Venezia Santa Lucia and Florence.

A few trains during the day run from Mestre to Florence without stopping at Santa Lucia because they originate from somewhere north or east on the mainland (Trieste or Udine), but most originate directly at Venice Santa Lucia station. If that were the case with the train you pick, you just need to catch a local train from Venezia Santa Lucia to Mestre and change trains there.

There is also an alternative now of www.italotreno.it/EN/Pages/default.aspx in addition to Trenitalia.
