Where to pick up Venice Orange Card?

We will be picking up our Venice Card when we arrive on Sept. 28 but are confused about where to pick it up. We are thinking of parking at Tronchetto and taking a water taxi from there to our apartment in Palazzo Santa Giustina in Castello. There are six of us so this seemed the best option until we learned that there are only three places to pick up the card. Where would the best place be...San Giuliano Parking or Piazzale Roma? Should we cosider parking at San Giuliano to make picking up the cards easier? Or should we stop by the train station before entering the car park?

As my husband says, with four children, the fewer the transitions, the better!

You cannot stop by the train station before entering the car park - all Venice is pedestrianised past Piazzale Roma at the end of th causeway. In any evnt Santa Lucia station is on the opposite side of the Grand Canal.

The Venice Card - Orange or Blue can be bought at any VeLa Office (Piazzale Roma, 518A Santa Croce or Calle dei Fuseri, 1810 San Marco) or the ASM desk in San Giuliano Car Park, Piazzale Roma.

You say you are planning to take a water taxi from Tronchetto to your apartment. Do you mean a private water taxi in which case your Venice Card will not help? Presumably you mean a water bus or vaporetto. If so you could pay 3.50 euros for a ticket to take you to Piazzale Roma to buy your Venice Card.

Actually a private water taxi is not a bad idea - split among a party of 6 the cost is not exhorbitant. A private water taxi will take 6 passngers and all your luggage directly to your apartment, or at least the canalside nearest to your apartment. This will obviate the necessity of struggling with luggage onboard a vaporetto and struggling again with luggage from vaporetto landing stage to you apartment through Venetian streets.

Robert J,

Yes, we do plan on taking a private water taxi to our apartment, since with four children, sometimes ease is more valuable than the cost!

So would you suggest parking at San Giuliano and picking up our Venice Cards there? Or is there a better solution? What are the differences between Piazzale Roma or San Giuliano? Is SG just a private parking facility near Piazzale Roma?

Thanks for your help.
