Robt J - For You - Best Time for Venice Trip |
|
Just returned from 2nd trip to Venice. Once in 2000 for only 1 day. Was there recently for 5 nights which was not nearly enough. Funny, before we left on the recent trip, I questioned whether 5 days was "too much". Not so. I feel I must return next year. I had wanted to visit Murano, Burano and Torcello. As well as walk through your special place, Dorsorduro. There was just not enough time in the five days we were there. So much more to be seen. We hope to return in 2006 and I want your advice on when to schedule our trip. This year we were there mid-to late May and it was quite warm. Would like it a little cooler if possible, but we don't want lots of rainy weather. We have one whole year to plan our next trip. Would you suggest April, beginning of May or perhaps September or October. We would prefer it not be too crowded. I look forward to your reply - and let me say, I certainly do appreciate all the time you give to this website. Report as inappropriate |

My wife and I both like either end of April to end of May or mid September to end of October as being usually pleasant but not over hot. There is always, at any time of the year, a chance of some rain in Venice. Peak tourist time is end of May to mid September when Venice is always crowded, both with day visitors and longer stay visitors. We got back from Venice on Friday, 3 June after a week there. It was unusually hot, hitting 32C (=90F) on a couple of days but at least there was no rain at all. Saving grace was we were able to eat our evening meal outdoors on the canalside every evening. Although you may feel it is perhaps taking it a bit too far we always enjoy the last two weeks of January. It may be cold and misty but is can also be very beautiful. There are significantly less tourists and most of the restaurants are open, the city is gearing up for carnival. You will have no problem visiting anywhere, hotel rooms will be cheaper and most of the shops are open, the owners will be delighted to see you. Murray Report as inappropriate | ||||||
