I'm thinking about traveling to Turin to take in part of the 2006 Olympics. Has anyone traveled out of the country for the Olympics? Does anyone have any advise on how to proceed in planning? Is there a better time to book? Bad time to book? Look for packages? Stay away from packages? Any input would be helpful. Thank you in advance!

I am traveling to Turin for the Olympics as well (and from not too far from NJ). I have never been the Olympic games before but have found a great deal of info from the 2006 Olympic site: torino2006.org. Event tickets are now for sale. (Americans can buy event tickets through cosport.com website). As someone in the hotel business, I am putting my own arrangements together.

Good luck!

Ciao guys,

my name is Roberto and I work in the field of Hospitality and incoming Tourism. I'm from Torino.

Let me tell you that it will be a hard job to find whatever type of accommodation during the Olympics. There are not many solutions in town and they're almost all fully booked.

I suggest you both to hurry up.

ciao,

Roberto

buon giorno Roberto,

I hope you do not mind me asking this question:

can you recommend any places that may still have accommodations available? We would like to stay in Turin for a few nights before moving out to Bardonnechia or another mountain site. There are many places on the internet, I am just having trouble gathering all their websites and email addresses.

Many thanks,

Melissa (melissa72@email.com)

Ciao Melissa,

I do not deal with hotel accommmodation. I just know some small b&b I collaborated with in the past and that I use to suggest to friends visiting Torino. Because of the relationship established and because of the fact that I speak a decent English, they asked me if I could help them in managing foreign visitors bookings for 2006, and so I did.

Unfortunately it was just a matter of a few rooms, and they're all gone.

Good luck for your search, I'll contact you if I know about anything available.

Roberto

minx,

try looking on turismotorino.org website and try some of the B&Bs. All the 3, 4 and 5 star hotels are allocated to the organizing committee and have to be booked through their agency. The B&Bs are taking reservations (some now, some in a few more months). Good luck!
