Where to find lodging for Torino 2006 Winter Olympics |
|
According to some recent postings, there is still accomodation to be found in Turin and surrounding areas, maybe with Olympic fever approaching many people and smaller hotels are jumping on the band sled. As an aid to anyone looking for a last minute place to stay here is a list of sites that I know of that specialize in finding lodging. www.jumbograndieventi.it - run by the organizers of Torino 2006 www.cosport.com - who are Olympics sponsors, and offering accomodation www.lupustours.com, a private organization specializing in sports tours www.montagnedoc. - which has information about the towns and facilities of the 2006 WinterOlympics as well as accomodation. www.trekking.gr/torino - Trekking Hellas Homes, an agency specializing in Olympic accomodation. In addition from time to time quasi-ads appear on this forum offering rooms or lodgings, or to inviting you leave your e-mail.I am sure that most of these are well-intentioned, but its a grey area. And Milan is 90 minutes away by frequent train with many hotels and lodgings. If anyone else knows a reputable organization offering accomodation, please add to this list. To everyone coming to Turin and Piedmont, bien venuti a Piemonte and have a wonderful time. Piedmont is one of Italy's lesser known regions, but one of it's most excellent for wine and cuisine, I urge everyone to get out and try some of the inexpenisve and fabulous trattorie in the little towns and villages. And there are many quaint hilltop villages, castles and other attractions as befits a region that was a buffer zone between Italy and France (and Switzerland) for 2000 years. Hi, we just booked rooms as well. By the way, I think its ludustours.com, not lupustours.com. That doesn't sound like a very fun tour group!!! See you in Turin! Report as inappropriate

Thanks Jimmy for the reference and I stand corrected, it is www.LUDUSTOURS.com and not lupus The difference of course as you observed is from the Latin, Ludus for sports/games and Lupus for wolf. Maybe there is a lupus tours specializing in wolf watching or hunting, but not here in Piedmont LOL Report as inappropriate

Piedmontamore- Thank you so much for the above information! I had tried all of those websites except for montagnedoc. After months of searching, hand-wringing and the thought of having to give up olympic tickets, we finally have a place to stay, thanks to your knowledge and advice! The best part is that it didn't cost us a fortune. I'm thrilled to report that we found rooms in Pinerolo with a family, and that's going to be part of the adventure and excitement. Instead of dreading February, we are ready to rock and roll! Thanks again!

Effekel, I am so happy that you found a place, and for everyone else who hasn't yet secured a place to stay, there still seem to be new places coming up as more owners get on the Olympic bob sled. Bienvenuti a Piemonte Report as inappropriate

I'm curious how you booked your room w/ a family through montagnedoc. The website shows plenty of availability with families, and states to email for a reservation - but so far all of my emails have gone unanswered. Did you book by email or did you find a phone number for them? Report as inappropriate

Just hoping to get advice from someone with knowledge of the area, do you think it will be okay to commute to Torino from Alessandria (1hr train ride away) and do you know much about this town? Report as inappropriate

Has anyone had a problem dealing with Jumbo Grande Eventi? I have sent them two faxes requesting accomodations, no reply. I received an automated email saying that they get back to you within 24 hours, but nothing. I'm getting panicky, not knowing whether to try and book with another company. Please advise! Thanks, R. I just had an email from Jumbo Grandi Eventi saying that they do not book for people from the USA. Can this be the case? Thanks, R. Report as inappropriate

I've heard about Jumbo Grandi Eventi not taking people from USA before. I will write to them to have a confirm. In the meanwhile if you are looking for accomodation you can write to me. I live in Turin and have some friends who may be interested in renting their flats. primatt@katamail.com In any case I hope you can arrive in Turin and enjoy our beatiful town and montains. Welcome. We booked a flat in Cavagnolo, but found plenty of other available options w/in 60km of Torino. I finally heard back from the people at Montagndoc, and they did still have lodging available - it took them about a week to respond to my email inquiry. I had great success by emailing the Torino Tourism office - they sent me a list of bed and breakfasts in the area. I emailed about 30 of them, and found availability at about 10. I also had good luck by emailing B&Bs I found on the regional website for Valle d'Aosta. Additionally, all of the places I found seemed to be running between 50 and 80Eur per night for a double room. So, there are still lots of affordable options for people attempting to find Olympic lodging. Report as inappropriate
