Still not able to see available train times Milan to Varenna

I'm looking for available train times for July 11 Milan to Varenna and July 14 Varenna to Milan, but the sites are still showing nothing. I even tried 60 days out from today (some aren't posted until 60 days prior), and still nothing. Anyone know how soon before a planned trip one can see the trains available for those towns?

The schedules are valid untiul June 12. The new schedules are posted shortly before they come into effect. They don't change a great deal, so use the present schedules for planning purposes.

Times are posted up to the next timetable change, which currently is 12 June. When the new timetable is posted in late May, times will be available until the next change on 12 December.

Trains to Como from Milan run very frequently (every 20 mins) from there you can take a ferry to Varenna So no need to panic .Cach the ferry sit back and watch the lake glide past with a glasss of wine in your hand and the sun on your face

I'm not concerned about getting from Como to Bellagio as I know I can take a train to Varenna or ferry. But, according to the website where we can purchase train passes, It says that the train from Milan to Como requires advanced reservations at a fee of course. Is seat reservations really required (for first class)? Also, we won't get to Como until evening, so if we take a ferry is it cool in July in the evenings and of course we may not be able to see anything. At what time does the sun set around Lake Como in July?

The fast trains from Milan Centrale which take around 30 minutes to Como San Giovanni train station (and continue to Zurich in Switzerland) require a reservation, but this is included in the ticket price shown on http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html and tickets can usually be purchased immediately before departure.

The slower trains from Milano Centrale to Como San Giovanni, and the many trains from other stations in Milan to Como Nord Lago train station do not require a reservation and have no reservable seats.

A website on a site where you purchase rail passes will often show a very restricted selection of trains compared to http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html which is the only comprehensive source of schedules and prices of trains in Italy, though it currently only shows trains to June 12 when schedules change slightly.

Rail passes are a waste of money for most tourists in Italy. If you have a rail pass, you will have to pay extra to the pass for a reservation, at a cost of €10 in Italy for the fast trains from Milan to Como. But the price for a ticket bought in Italy including the reservation is only €10.50, and for a train which does not require reservation only €3.60.

The fare prices above are second class - I missed your reference to first class, which also requires a reservation at the same price on the fast trains, but not on the others.

In any event, there is no need to travel via Como if Varenna is your destination. All trains bound for Sondrio and/or Tirano (the final destinations you'll see on station boards) stop at Varenna and it is a direct journey lasting about an hour.

From there you can explore the whiole lake, Northa and South, thanks to trains on the E shore, boats and ferries going all over, and buses on the W shore. Plenty of older threads you can retrieve discuss every aspect.

Tropic at Heart - There are websites that will calculate the exact time for sunset but is roughly 21:00 (9:00pm). Cool is a relative thing. If you are on the front of a boat, in shorts and sleeveless or short sleeves, then you may think it's cool. But you can go sit inside the boat.

A far as train reservations, the ICE, Eurostar and Pendolino trains all require reservation. They require reservations no matter where are. These are the fastest class of trains in Europe. And this class of train will be going from Milan, via como to Switzerland so that is probably what you saw.
