Bellagio and Como

In two weeks I'm visiting Milan with a friend. I was planning to do a day-trip to Como and I was wondering if it would be possible (within a day-trip) to visit Bellagio, and also, how to get there from Como.

Thank you for your time and every opinion is appreciated.

There are a variety of boat trips leaving Como throughout the day for Bellagio as well as other stops on the lake. You can usually choose boats for speed, number of stops, etc, during the summer months. Several options, and do-able as part of a (long) day trip.

Yes, a boat ride on the lake is a beautiful part of visiting Como.

If you can, take the train that goes to the Como Lago station, which is nearer the lake the main station. It is easy to get to Bellagio or any number of special places like Villa Carlotta by boat.

This is a nice full day round trip. Take a train from Milan Central station to Varenna. Spend some time looking around this pretty little town, then go down to the waterfront and catch the short ferry ride to Bellagio. You can spend some time in this town, and have lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Then take the long and scenic ferry ride to Como, then a train from Como Lago station to Milan Cadorna.

As mentioned above yes you can do Milan - Como-Bellagio and retrun as daytrip. As mentioned above it is best to do this with one boat trip Como to Midlake or the other direction.

A few things to help your planning #1) The main boat trip itself will itself will be between one and two hours. One hour is a big catamaran or hydrofoil (not too good for picture taking). Two hours is slower boat with indoor and outdoor seating. #2) While the boats between Bellagio and Varenna (you need Varenna for the trains station) run untill about 9;00 or 10:00pm. The boats between Como and Midlake stop at about 5:00 or 6:00pm.

As above, its easy to get to Bellagio from Como. Try to enjoy spend some time in Verenna as its a gorgeous little town right on the lake looking over to Bellagio. I actually preferred it to Bellagio.!
