Trying to decide where to stay for a trip to Lake Como this October 2013! Also any
restaurant or must-see destinations are welcome!
My choice would be the Villa Serbelloni because my favourite village on the lake is Bellagio.
Hotel Serbelloni. It's amazing!
Villa balbianello is a must see . Lunch/ dinner up the road in il Cris Ristorante - best food had so far - going back tonight. Lunch on the waterfront at hotel metropole in bellagio was nice
We are staying in Tremezzo at the moment. We hopped a ferry over to Bellagio yesterday for lunch, and found it full of tourists. The town itself is very touristy, if there is such a word, and there are a lot of shops with everything from leather coats to silk scarves to turtles made from stones out of the lake. Bellagio was a nice place to visit, but we are glad we are staying in Tremezzo.
For travel on the the ferry, if you are going more than three stops, buy a day pass, as it is better value for €15.
For a fun day, buy a day pass and cruise around on the lake visiting the different stops along the way. Or just stay on the ferry and tour the whole lake - they have great coffee on board, lunch at one end of the lake, and travel back for the afternoon.
Hello and thank you for asking the question that I was just about to post. I will be very interested to hear where you decide to stay as these are my two favourites for our trip next June. We are off to Lucca early October for our next trip and I am now starting the research for next June. I do like the 'feel' of the Serbelloni, but I am drawn more to the Tremezzo precisely because of the fact that Bellagio appears to be such a honeypot for tourists, perfect for a visit but maybe not for the two weeks that we usually stay on our June holiday.
Good luck with your choice and please do write a review after your stay.
Bellagio does get a lot of tourists during the day but when they all go home in the evening it's much quieter.
<Just had bad experience at Villa Serbeloni. We were also a little disappointed in Bellagio- it was full of American tourists and the restaurants we few and not great. We wished we stayed in Tremezzo!>
It has been 6 years since we stayed at Villa Serbeloni and we were also underwhelmed with the hotel and the amount of tourists in Bellagio. We actually cut our visit short and headed to Milan for a few days which suited us well.
Serbelloni's location is very quiet, at the northern end of the village of Bellagio, amidst the hotel's gardens, with some of the greatest views you'll encounter.
Although the Hotel Tremezzo might be moderner and 'slicker', we definitely prefer the Serbelloni.
