Have been trying to get an answer to this question for some time. Can someone please set me straight. How many towns have the name of Monterosso? Here is what I find when I search: Monterosso Al Mare Monterosso Marche Monterosso Veneto Are these different towns? If so, why would 3 towns be named the same? Hope someone can help. They have different names.LOL. If you look at your spelling M. al Mare(by the sea), M. Marche is located in Marche region of Italy; M. Veneto is located in Venice region of Italy. In the USA, there are a number of cities in different States with the same names. Have a look at Google maps then put in Las Vegas or Hollywood to see how many come up. Good Luck!! There's another Monterosso (Monterosso... Grana, maybe?) in Piemonte, too. As others have said, there are plenty of towns with the same name in the US. It's not that odd. Report as inappropriate | ||||||

The Monterosso in Cinque Terre is "Monterosso al Mare". Marche and Veneto are names of other italian regions. I guess in Usa there are several town with the same name in different states (springfield).. Report as inappropriate | ||||||

And there seem to be places called Red Mountain in half a dozen US states (Monterosso means red mountain). Report as inappropriate | ||||||

Hi I am not sure if I am of any help. I do know that Monterosso Al Mare is the northern most coastal village of the Cinque Terre (five villages) which is south of Genoa on the west coast of Italy. Do not know where the others are though. Good luck! Report as inappropriate | ||||||

Not sure if is the the correct naming of monterosso al mare Monterosso is the largest of the Five Villages and the two best explanations for its naming are; Rufus a son of one of the ruling houses in the 10thC had bright red hair (Rufus for red) and he lived on a castle on top of the hill hence “U Munte du Russu”
or there is a red glow in the sunset over the mountains for an explanation of Mountains of Rosso. Report as inappropriate | ||||||
