How do we get from Genoa to Forcalquier in Provence?

Hi,

We will be staying in various spots on the Italian riviera but we want to visit amour friend in forcalquier. We're not sure where to depart from (Genoa, San Remo, Mlian) as we have flexibility and also how to do it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks very much

San Remo is the nearest. Train to Ventimiglia - 15 minutes, €2.70 http://www.trenitalia.com/homepage_en.html

Then train from Vintimille (French for Ventimiglia) to Marseille) - http://www.tgv-europe.com/en/ - give your country on the homepage as Antarctic not Australia to prevent transfer to a different website. Do not choose an option to pick up at a train station as this cannot be done in Ventimiglia. Booking from 90 days in advance, and cheapest then.

Then bus regionpaca.fr/uploads/media/Marseille-Manosq…

Or rent a car in San Remo - probably nearly a five hour drive with a rest stop, costing maybe €45 each way in tolls and fuel, plus rental charge.

It's between Aix-en-Provence (above Marseille) and Sisteron/Digne, so if driving you would go via Cuneo.

By train from Genova or San Remo, you would start on a local train to Ventimiglia, then normally to Nice-Ville, which is 3 hrs from Aix by TGV. From San Remo this takes about 5 hrs, the best connection is dep. 09:22, arr. Ventimiglia 09:39 then direct TGV to Aix (final destination Paris-Lyon) dep 10:39 arr. 14:12.

From Milan (Malpensa, MXP) Air France has direct flights taking 1h10 to Marseille Provence Airport, which is only 10 mins from Aix by direct bus from the airport. And there are buses to Forcalquier from Aix, see (in French) ville-forcalquier.fr/venir-a-forcalquier.html - for more information you would have to ask in the forum for France.

Current flight timetable:

08:35-09:45 MXP-MRS MTWTFS- Air France 2067

18:30-19:40 MXP-MRS MTWTF-S Air France 2267

if driving from Genoa or San Remo, do not to go via Cuneo. The Tende tunnel to Cuneo from France sometimes has long delays, as it has been a one-way tunnel for some years now. And the road across the Colle della Maddelena/Col de Larche between Cuneo and Barcelonette can be appallingly slow - narrow and twisting, and with a good chance of being stuck behind a truck. The highways are much faster - see http://www.viamichelin.com will give recommended routes and travelling times, which will be optimistic for Milan-Cuneo as it will give insufficient time allowance for the Colle delle Maddalena.

Taking the train to Aix TGV could well be a better idea than to Marseille. As could flying from Milan to Marseille Provence - though the total travelling time from central Milan to your exit from Marseille airport could be nearer to four hours if you allow secure time for travel to Malpensa Airport and airport processing. These are the direct buses to Forcalquier from Aix TGV and Marseille airport regionpaca.fr/uploads/media/Forcalquier-Sist…
