My wife and I (both mid 50s) are very much looking forward to our holiday in lovely Trieste from 13th - 22nd September, staying at Residence San Giusto, Via Montecchi 8. We love Italy and this is our 6th holiday there in 7 years, having previously had great times in Sorrento, Lakes Garda, Como, Maggiore and Florence !
We love walking and intend doing much around Trieste but we will use some public transport including for trips to surrounding attractions and to Venice.
A couple of queries please.
(i) Is there a ferry from Trieste to Grado in September ?
Their web page gives the summer timetable up to end of August but does not mention a “winter” service.
(ii) Is it possible to buy bus tickets on the public buses ?
For example for Bus No 1, S. Giacomo seems to be the stop closest to Via Montecchi for Residence San Giusto. If cannot buy ticket on the bus, is there a ticket source at these stops ?
(iii) On their website some bus timetables indicate “Orario estivo “, summer hours. One such is Bus No 44: San Giovanni Del Timavo - Piazza Oberdan for Duino Catle.
Does this mean less frequent service after the summer ?
(iv) On our day trip(s) to Venice we would like to travel by ES City, Frecciabianca trians, not having anything as fast or sleek at home.
In September would these need to be reserved in advance, or ticket just bought on the day ?
(v) How much is taxi from Trieste railway station to Residence San Giusto, Via Montecchi 8 ?
Many thanks for your help.
