Plane or car from Rome to Rimini

We need to get from Rome/Fiumicino to Rimini on June 10, 2013, preferably by air. In the past, we have flown Darwin Airlines, but it seems that they are discontinuing service. Does anyone know of other direct flights from Rome to Rimini? If not, we're considering:

1. Drive by car

2. Train

We arrive in Italy on June 10 by air at Fiumicino, so that is why we prefer to continue on by air to Rimini. Alternatively, car would be convenient as we could rent in Fiumicino (we were going to rent a car in Rimini anyway if we arrived by air, so this means we'd just get the car earlier), but we're concerned about the drive time. We know we could take a train, but we'd have to first go from Fiumicino to Roma Termini. Any other advice? Thank you.

I should have added that our ultimate destination is Riccione (but we'd be picking up our rental car in Rimini, assuming we fly from Rome to Rimini). Yet another alternative is to fly from Rome to Ancona, pick up a rental car there and drive to Riccione.

Rimini airport is actually in Miramare,half way from Ricicone and Rimini, if you need a car just to reach Riccione and not during your stay maybe is better to take simply a taxi, you won't need it once in Riccione.

if you decide for the train, once in Rimini station there are many local trains taking you to Riccione in 10 minutes and you'll arrive in centre.

Unfortunately there aren't any flights from FCO to RMI anymore since 30/04/2013. If You don't like to drive from Rome to Rimini You can take the plane to Ancona and from there by train or car to Rimini. The train stops right in front of the airport of Ancona and in 1 hour You will be in Rimini or Riccione.

It's better to fly to Ancona then to Bologna, from Bologna airport to Rimini or Riccione it takes You at least 2 hours and 30 minutes and double the money!

Thank you for the helpful information. Out of curiosity, why is the drive from Bologna to Rimini 2.5 hours, when the distance in kilometers seems to be just a little more than Ancona to Rimini, which you say takes 1 hour?

In fact it isn't!

Unless you travel in high season on Sundays or other "wrong" days for traffic it's 1,5 hour Bologna-Rimini.

Don't know if this is of any help, but there are direct buses from Rome to Riccione - until June 14 there is a departure at 3PM on Monday (June 10 happens to be a Mon.), which takes less than 4 hours (after June 15 they have 3 departures daily) -- www.bonellibus.it.

@joepass58

I never said the drive from Bologna to Rimini is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

I said: It's better to fly to Ancona then to Bologna, from Bologna airport to Rimini or Riccione it takes You at least 2 hours and 30 minutes and double the money!

From the moment You leave the airport, get on the aereobus, take the train and arrives in Rimini or Riccione at lest 2 hours and 30 minutes passes by.

If You take a car it's only 1 hour and 25 minutes.
