possibilities left: either Bologna or Ancona. Ryanair didn't renew its service with Rimini Airport.

Bologna has the better connections. How many of you travelling and where are you staying? It just might be worthwhile hiring a car for a couple of days or even just to take you to Rimini.

Trains from Ancona to Rimini are cheaper and faster than trains from Bologna to Rimini, and the Regional trains from Falconara Marittima three miles from Ancona airport are even cheaper. But bus connections from Ancona airport to train stations are hourly, and from Bologna they're every 20 minutes.

As the destination expert perilizia, you know that the price and speed depends on which train you catch. As the flights from London depart and arrive early in the morning it is imperative to arrive at the airport on time. Especially for the return flight, EastofEngland is safer from Bologna, IMHO

I wouldn't recommend one airport or the other. Airline, flight times and UK airports are more important choices, and Bologna has a greater choice of these.

But the type of train has nothing to do with it. Both the Frecciabianca and the Regional trains are somewhat faster and cheaper to Ancona, because Ancona is slightly nearer Rimini than Bologna. And Ancona Airport, at Falconara Marittima which is served only by Regional trains, is nearer still.

From Ancona, Ryanair flights depart either around 13.30 or in the late evening.
