Rimini to Florence or Bologna

Which city is closer and easier to get to from Rimini? We are looking for a day trip from Rimini. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated too.

Thanks!

Bologna is about 115 km from Rimini, and the train journey will take between 58 minutes to 1h40, depending on the kind of train.

There are mountains between Rimini and Florence, so you have to travel via Bologna, giving a travel distance of some 225 km. By train, you have to change at Bologna and the travel time is a bit over 2 hours.

A shorter distance and cheaper (only €12.15 on the day) to get to Florence is to travel on Regional trains, changing in Faenza. But it takes around three hours instead of two. See http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html clicking the 'All solutions' button.
