help - itinerary for site seeing in Rome - possible??

We need some advice trying to finalize our upcoming trip to Rome – we leave in a week!! Yikes!

due to flight changes we only have a limited time in Rome to site see... we are flying round trip from the US to Rome then taking a cruise then fly back to Rome at the end of our cruise then to US. We are staying 2 nights in Rome 1 at the beginning and 1 at the end of our trip. So we really only have two afternoons to site see and not even in a row…

we are arriving from the US on Friday at 8:45am stay overnight at the St. George Roma Hotel and depart at 11am for a cruise the next morning.

We are thinking we could see: the Vatican (Sistine Chappel), Piazza Navona and Pantheon this first afternoon (not staying too long at each place) and a fabulous dinner someplace really special.

On our return to Rome we are flying from Greece to Rome arrive Rome at 10am staying at the Hotel d'Inghilterra then depart the next morning for US at 11am.

We are thinking we would see: Colosseum, Roman Forum (and maybe the Spanish steps or Trevi Fountain) then another great dinner

We are trying to decide the best order to see the sites we have listed - and what is even possible with our now very limited time in Rome - we do not plan to spend allot of time at each place.

does it seem best to see the sites the way we have planned or maybe reverse the order (change the days we see what) ie: Vatican – Piazza Navona – Pantheon the last day?

Thank you!!

Hello

we just returned from a 4day Rome then cruise vacation.

The important thing is to pre-book your vatican

museum tickets. We used Trough Eternity for the Colosseum & Forum, and a private driver for a night tour of S.Steps & T.Fountain etc...

There is o HOHO bus that is great for a general overview...runs till around 8:00pm.

We pre-booked our transfers to & from port with RomeCabs.

The key is good planning..figure you'll be slightly

more tired when arriving from U.S. than Greece.

Have a great trip...

P.S. it averaged in the 90's bring hats!

Itinerary looks possible. The Vatican Museum with the Sistine Chapel takes a chunk out of your time. You have to walk through the entire museum to arrive at the Sistine...it is at the very end. While there you will also want to visit st. Peter's..at least for a look around. I am sure you know that both of these places have a dress code. Knees must be covered and also shoulders for women. Men must have on long pants and a shirt. In other words..no shorts or tank tops..no matter how hot :)

I would second the use of Rome Cabs...

thanks for the replys - we are using rome cabs for our transportation from our hotel to cruise ship. our cruise ends in france then we are off to greece on our own then fly back to rome for 1 night befire heading back to US..

we were wondering if we should reverse what we are trying to see while in Rome.. not sure what makes more sense (if it even makes a difference).

we were planning to take a cab from our hotel to see the vatican, etc... the day we arrive, yes we are going to be beat.. but we have done some pretty crazy itin's (we want to get as much in as we can)

i'm confussed- why is it best to get tickets for the vatican ahead of time? i'm ready conflicting info... does this men we should book skip the line tickets as well for the vatican?

also thanks for the tip regarding attire... we kind of assumed...

Thanks!

I dont understand your last message..but here goes. If you book tickets for The Vatican Museum you get in another line to enter. If you have pre booked tickets you do not get in the line with people who have no tickets. That line is almost always much longer.

Hopefully, that answers your question....

I always find that when visiting major sites it's always best to book in advance. Especially the Vatican because you run the risk of being stuck in a line for hours.
