HI Nelderwoman,

Many of the smaller shops in Rome will close for the entire month of August. Those in the historic center and larger department stores will remain open. Hopefully your visit will be toward the beginning of the month, when you will get to take advantage of the "saldi" or sales on summer merchandise. These sales will begin this Saturday, but will continue until beginning to mid august.

Hee Hee, your husband and my husband could write a book I bet!

You never know, you may still get some good finds on the bargain racks even at the end of the month :)

Walk down Via Condotti. It is the street which runs into the Spanish Steps. Condotti has all the good shops. Also walk into the smaller street to the left of Condotti..with your back to the Spanish Steps. You will see sunglasses, and all the designer bags in this area of Rome.

They do not close in August. Gucci is always open... as is Tods and Fendi.

Thanks Guys

Agatha, you have just made my day, have just saw the most wonderful pair of Gucci sunglasses on line so hope I can get them in Rome as they are sold out in UK. Are they prices much higher there. Everyone tells me how terribly expensive Rome is but as you know (isnt this right astroclaus) every girl needs a treat while on holiday. Will I be able to find the Gucci shop Ok.

Go to the Spanish Steps. Everyone can find them. Right in front of you is Via Condotti..Gucci is on the right hand side near the top of the street.

Well, what could be more expensive than the UK? :) Gucci is not inexpensive any place in the world..but we are worth it? right :)

enjoy

I loved the Gucci store, and found many of their pieces on sale.

Actually I was in the Gucci store in Hong Kong this February, then went to the Gucci store in Rome a week later. I found some clothing cheaper in Rome. The staff are great, and will be returning this August...

Happy shopping :D

Hi Nelderwoman, Having just returned from Rome yesterday and being from the UK myself, i can honestly say it is much, much more expensive than here in the UK for almost everything!

I visited some of the high end shops whilst there and found the prices way more e.g a lovely pair of jimmychoos i've had my eye on a while were at least a third more!

my advice would be to save your money and buy online.

Happy shopping!

As for the small sunglass shops off the Via Condotti, don't be afraid to offer less Euro than asked.

My cousin did exactly that and they accepted a lower offer...this will most likely not work in a shop such as Gucci, but in the smaller more independent shops.
