 New Vatican Schedule!
Destination Expert   What's this?
for Rome, Vatican City

Alleluja Alleluja, after I sang a 'Te Deum' I can inform the TA community about the new Vatican Museum schedule for 2008 season. So please take a note and make (eventually) adjustments to your trip plans. The very good new is that the new schedule (in theory) seems a try to prevent and cut the lines. The bad new is that only the qualified operators can make the reservations not the general public. Now the qualified operators have 8 time slots (1 hour each) to pick from and not just 2 (from 8am to 10am).

- The Museum opens everyday, all the year round at 8.30am and closes at 6pm. Last entrance is at 4pm.

- The entrance fee is 14 euros (ouch!). In case an agency / tour operator made the reservation for you the ticket is more expensive (18 euros). There is no chance for the agency / tour operator to make a cancellation, so be careful before booking if you are not 100% sure to go: they will ask you the refound anyway.

- Last Sun of each month is open and for free, from 8.30am to 2pm. Last entrance is at 12.30

- Closing days: Jan 1st; Feb 11th; Mar 19th & 24th; May 1st & 22nd; Aug 14th & 15th; Nov 1st; Dec 8th, 25th & 26th. Of course all the Suns with the exception of the last of each month.

I think that's all for the moment! Happy Vatican visit to all

Ciao Daniela

So I HAVE to buy a ticket through an operator and not stand in the line?

Who are the operators authorized to make reservations?

Thanks Daniela.

I have the same question as the previous poster. Can I still stand in line a buy a ticket? If not who are the qualified operators? What is the 1 hour limit you talk about for operators? Do the tours only last 1 hour?

Thanks,

Julio

To respond if it is worthy to book with agencies or not.

I would wait to make a reservation because with such long schedule the lines should be cut off. Normally the qualified operators are (escorted) group tours that have the need to get into the museum in early hours for the daily tight schedule (Vatican, Colosseum, Forum etc etc); I am sure that in pm hours the crowds will be very light and mostly going by their own. If you have the need of a guide the 8 euros audioguide is a teffic tool.

5. Re: New Vatican Schedule!

I am actually going to Rome next week ! And would like to do the Vatican tour on Friday.

I have a toddler with me, so would rather spend the extra $$ to avoid lines. But I don't want a guide. Just want to avoid lines.
