Before you go... what's on your "to-do" list?
Destination Expert   What's this?
for Rome

Starting my pre-departure "to do" list to prepare things at home for while I'm gone. Add yours to mine!

I've contacted the bank to buy a few euros, increase my ATM withdrawal amount and let them know the dates I'll be in Rome.

Called my credit card company and let them know too!

I contacted the newspaper and postal service to stop delivery while I'm gone.

Contacted a neighbor to have him keep an eye on the house while we're gone and to water the plants.

Set up my "Photo Bucket" account to upload my photos of Rome from an internet portal.

Made 2 photocopies of passport, ATM & credit cards (front and back) and gave one copy to a relative and packed the other.

Before I go I'll:

Confirm my apartment rental and airport transfer by email.

Clean up the yard and cut the grass.

Turn off the water lines to my washer.

Unplug appliances.

Put timers on a few lights in the house.

Double check that all windows and doors are secure.

Drop off the pet to my sister-in-law.

Update my I-Pod.

Choose a good book to take with me.

I'm sure there's lots of other stuff, routine and boring but necessary... So add your list to mine and none of us will find ourselves in a panic on the day we're leaving!

Purchase luggage locks

Purchase an electricity converter

Wash all clothes

Clean the house

Leave family the keys to the house

Dont leave anything in the freezer in case something happens and electricity goes out

Leave all telephone numbers where we can be contacted in case of an emergency. Include all hotel numbers and dates we will be at each hotel.

Buy Tylenol, Advil, Vitamin C and pack it.

Pack extra contact lenses to take

Put all valuable documents in safety box at the box

Leave time and date we come back so we can be picked up by a designated person

Get married!!

:)

This is a wonderful thread !! Lots of helpful and probably not so helpful, LOL, but funny posts!!! :-)

Stettola ~~ I will remind my hubby to throw a bellisima at you while I turn my head and pretend not to notice!!! LOL !! You are so funny--we say, you are a riot !! I'll bet that you get plenty of bellisimas thrown at you all the time!!

EC must be sitting and twiddling his thumbs right now since he only has 5 more days !!!

Gee, I don't know where my mind is----I suppose the answer to that would be "Italy" as usual. :-)

I was wanting to add that I have my mind full of what(or should I say whom) that I am leaving at home when we go to Italy . I am leaving my 19 year old son home alone for 19 days. My heart is doing some really fast palpitations just thinking about it !! Oye, what am I doing?

Witty,

I am definitely NOT twiddling my thumbs... I'm trying to get work cleared off my desk. It seems odd, everyone at work has known my travel dates since last year, they've even been reminded on occasion and now they're acting like they only just found out.

Imagine the nerve of it, me taking a vacation and all...

LOL Witty and EC. We were successfull last summer with our son ....he went to his nana at the seaside while we were away. He came two days earlier tho, he couldn't lose the chance to have the flat for him and his friends. They seem to have behaved. The good of having the remaining of a "village"kind of relationships in Rome is that especially elderly neighbours report anything to you good or bad. I hated it when I was a teenager but it's useful now...LOL

EC I told Roma72 my boss was expecting me to give the wax on floors before I left for Ireland!! She knew since almost an year and it was only 8 days off.

EternalCity... I already started telling all my employees and my boss that I will be away from x to z date and that anything that needs my attention needs to come to my desk a wk before I leave or after. I already had some requests and some I told "it has to wait until I return". I am not stressing over work, if it cant get it done now, it has to wait.

EC~~ you must remember that some of us have this wonderful illusion of owning our own company and having never to worry about "work" , because we wouls always be able to depend on someone else to carry on while we are gone. And we ,of course, would then be able to take lots of time off for travel !!! So that is why I am picturing you sitting with your feet up whilst twiddling your thumbs!

Are you ROFL now???

Stettola~~isn't that also the way it goes at the end of the day at work ? When it is time to go home, the boss thinks that you can magically get one last thing done in record speed??? Ahhh jobs~~can't live with them and can't live without them. Well, for most of us anyway !!!

And Cinzia, I am not long away from being able to see you again !!! Yeah !!!!!

Yeaaa, witty. I'll write soon. Wow It's been almost a year already! Happy you are Rome addict so you are coming back.

EC hope to be able to see you too. You need "That" jacket. Temperature went down and it's raining. Probably it will last only a couple of days. Just when a couple from Alaska (friends of friends) will be here. Gotta take out my jacket too if I want to take them around.
