Before you go... what's on your "to-do" list?

Starting my pre-departure "to do" list to prepare things at home for while I'm gone. Add yours to mine!

I've contacted the bank to buy a few euros, increase my ATM withdrawal amount and let them know the dates I'll be in Rome.

Called my credit card company and let them know too!

I contacted the newspaper and postal service to stop delivery while I'm gone.

Contacted a neighbor to have him keep an eye on the house while we're gone and to water the plants.

Set up my "Photo Bucket" account to upload my photos of Rome from an internet portal.

Made 2 photocopies of passport, ATM & credit cards (front and back) and gave one copy to a relative and packed the other.

Before I go I'll:

Confirm my apartment rental and airport transfer by email.

Clean up the yard and cut the grass.

Turn off the water lines to my washer.

Unplug appliances.

Put timers on a few lights in the house.

Double check that all windows and doors are secure.

Drop off the pet to my sister-in-law.

Update my I-Pod.

Choose a good book to take with me.

I'm sure there's lots of other stuff, routine and boring but necessary... So add your list to mine and none of us will find ourselves in a panic on the day we're leaving!

Interesting fact that I found out today when I went to Radio shack to buy a volt converter. The salesman said i didnt need a converter just a two prong adapter for my cell phone, digital camera, and Ipod. I didn't believe him but he showed me. On each of the chargers is a sticker that says ac input or something like that. And sure enough I looked and they all said 100-240 volts.

SOOOOOOOO do I need a converter or is the guy right?

You can pack full size items in your checked luggage, its only carry-on that has restrictions. :)

Mike, if you have a Neighborhood Watch program, you might notify them to keep an eye on your house or local police patrol.

Did anyone mention sunscreen? I use it year round.

I have made a driving map (using Mappy.com) from the termini to our apartment to give to our taxi driver.

Also have two paperback books by Clive Cussler. Had hubby lock them in the safe and hide the keys from me so I will NOT read them before getting on the airplane.

After notifying bank & CC companies to flag your accounts, wait about a week and call them again and verify the accounts were flagged.

Think kind thoughts of all of us at home waiting our turn to walk the streets of Rome and eat the wonderful food.....at McDonalds!

Does anyone know what the carry on restrictions are in Europe. We will be changing planes in England from American to British Airways to get to Rome. Not sure if we will have to go through security again after customs (i've had to do that in Houston when I came back from Costa Rica)... but if I do I would like to be prepared for that...
