Safety walking to central train station

Can anyone tell if me it`s safe to walk from the Naples cruise ship port to the central train station? We like to walk but have heard it`s not a safe walk. About how many minutes would it take? Thanks

It's not unsafe during the day, although it's not particularly pretty. The area along the port is industrial.

You can take the #1 tram in the road in front of the cruise port (Via Cristoforo Columbo) to either the Circumvesuviana Porta Nolana station or the Trenitalia station (Napoli Centrale).

It's about a mile and a half and should take a normal walker about a half hour.

An easier alternative, since you pay the driver rather than having to buy the right ticket from one of the bars or newstands, might be the Alibus - which has stops near the cruise terminal at Beverello and also outside the MacDonalds at the station.

Tickets €3 - see...

Whilst not an arduous, or particularly risky walk, those new in town off cruiseships present the most obvious and attractive of targets for street thieves and the like. With a million or so coming ashore each year, it's almost inevitable?

You might leave it until you're on the way back, in which direction it's - slightly - downhill... when you'll perhaps stand out less?

Be very careful in Naples. Don't wear any jewellery, mind your purse and be very careful of the traffic as cars and scooters seem to drive with no regard for the rules of the road. A lady on our cruise had her handbag sliced off at the handles by two people on a scooter. The train station is about a 20 minute walk from the port (although the taxi drivers will tell you it is further). We are brisk walkers .We walked from our cruise ship to and from the station (for the train to Pompeii) and found the area to be filthy and a little intimidating. The train station and train were very busy so I felt safe enough there. We certainly saved a lot of money as it cost a few euro as opposed to about €70 quoted by the taxi drivers, if I remember correctly.

The cruise staff told us that the trains can go on strike at the drop of a hat and to make sure you have money for a taxi back -just in case.

Walking back from the station in the evening felt a bit safer as a number of groups were walking back to the ship. I was very, very nearly knocked down on the street outside the station by four youths who were speeding down the wrong side of the road being chased by the police, so keep your wits about you. (They were caught and arrested).

If you are goign to the train station in order to go to Pompeii there is a bus ststion (Varco Immacolatella) which is the blue bus on this map (estimated placement) that is closer

There are fixed taxi fares and from the port to the central train stations is certainly not €70.

Strikes are posted well in advance.

Surely that 70 Euro was a reference to the entire Pompei outing - although the set deal is actually €90, including the taxi waiting for 2 hours at the site.

For the bus route, by far the most convenient of the several methods we've used when starting from the harbour (except on Sundays when they don't run!), perhaps see my write-up - here:
