I reckon it may be a little too early for your attempted booking/schedule. Also, there are many tales of not being able to use US cards to buy tickets from Trenitalia.

Booking trains tickets on tenitalia is a daunting experience. They are unlikely to accept a card issued outside Italy in payment A great website for tiemtables but hopeless for buying tickets. I have long since given uop trying and now buy me tickets from teh station ticket office or the automatic machines when in taly.

As for travel from Rome to Paris by train, given that the cheapo flights are quicker and cheaper than the train journey, unless you are a very keen train enthusiast I would not consider the journey - fly

Thanks for the reply. I am hoping to return from Rome on 2nd night and the flights are expensive in the evening. Plus it would be nice to take the evening train and reach paris in the morning.

I might end up just flying in the end.

Usually, the trenitalia website only lists trains 30-60 day out. They also wont take credit cards that are not Italian. You can use a different date to get an idea of the trains available and the prices but you should wait to buy your tickets when you get to Italy.

If you choose to fly with a low cost carrier, remember that they make most of their money on the extra luggage charges that they charge. They only allow a very small amount of luggage and charge through the nose if you have more. Just be aware that this might happen.
