If it's a weekend, there are a few discos that are still open at that time, or a couple of places open for hot chocolate and churros (San Ginés)!

Probably with early morning in Spain is that Spain is in the far western part of its time zone so it's always darker than I am used in the morning. For example, it's 8 o'clock in NYC and light. It's Detroit, it's 8 o'clock as well as just starting to get light. The comparable is eastern part of Germany to Spain...well, I'm guessing. And all of this means nothing to a Brit?

As any rate, I am not excited about going out in the dark of the morning.

At any rate, my favorite place for churros is Bar Majaderitos on Calle de Cadiz, south of Puerta del Sol. Go to Tio Pepe end of Puerta del Sol then go south on Espoz y Mina, turn right on Calle de Cadiz. Hours 7 am to midnight. Good prices, a very local place.

Maybe the classier Chocolatería San Gines has better hours for you 18:00-7:00. Next to Joy Eslava disco.

Check email. Some internet shops open at 8:00.

The Prado opens at 9. Palacio Real at the other end of the historic center opens at 9:30.

Walk to Atocha and get an early morning train to Toledo.

I don't understand why a hotel would be throwing you into the street at that hour! And I am a morning person, but not in Madrid.
