My husband & I are going to be in Barcelona next week & will then be flying over to Madrid but we forgot to book our flights, the prices have now doubled & we are wondering if it is worth trying to turn up on the day to see if the flights might be cheaper - or is this too risky?

many thanks in advance

As a rule, the nearer departure, the higher the price goes. Especially with low cost carriers.

As you have left it late, I would book the first flight you see.

Spanair are good for internal Spanish flights. Paid €24 single from Barcelona to Palma Mallorca a couple of weeks ago. If I had left it until the day of travel it would have cost me €190!

Consider the train. 65E. Leave at 7 am from Barcelona and be in Madrid-Atocha by 12 noon....a few hours before lunch.

Plane. Don't know when you are leaving but I just found at 16:30 and 22:30 on October 23 for 36.92E on Iberia website. Maybe be flexible about the day you are going.
