Do Spanish hypermarkets open on sundays?

Flying into gerona on a sunday with no luggage and want to do some shopping before heading for the hills! Are there any hypermarkets open? and do you know the opening hours?

No, supermarkets not open on a Sunday in Girona. They are towards the coast but that is probably in the wrong direction for you. Spanish law does allow them to be open but Girona has a self imposed Sunday trading ban. You will be able to get some food from bakeries, which are open on Sunday, and petrol stations. There are also a couple of "corner shop" businesses open in the centre of Girona, but the airport is a little way out of town.
