The flight from Mallorca with Iberia was terrible - 1 hour late

leaving,

10 minutes from Madrid the pilot announced we are about to land - then 2 minutes later - heavy traffic and therefore we had to go to Allicante to get fuel! (where the heck is Allicante - check the map!)

The plane stayed on the ground at Allicante for 1 hour, complete with police, fire and petrol tanker!

We flew back to Madrid and the plan then circled Madrid for another hour!

Most of the announcements were in Spanish and not translated. Im sure at least half the passenger were non-Spanish!

Missed my connection to London. Iberia staff at Madrid Airport were rude and unhelpful, who talked amongst themselves in Spanish but refused to communicate to me what was happening. (one even said when I presented my boarding pass 'this is not an Iberia flight "!) Finally they put me on another flight which was also late and left Madrid at 9pm. I finally arrived at my hotel in London at 12.30 am London time - after arriving at Palma airport for a 2pm departure the previous day. A 14 hour journey!

I met other passengers at Madrid who had experienced similar inconvenience - left Allicanate, diverted to Valencia for fuel before flying on to Madrid). I never heard of an airline that had to fly 45 minutes south to pickup fuel for a "circle" of 1 hour!!

What an awful experience (this was after an outward flight which also took 12 hours, London to Palma, via Madrid) - Iberia - never again!

Iberia - never again! As I already posted before flying with Iberia means awful flight!

Bad service and aircrafts and you will surely find an unhelp staff waiting for you.

frankly they dont give a damn. but unfortunately they wont be gone with the wind. until recently when they built a madrid terminal for national and international flights next to eachother you would have to go 2km to get from one to the other to make a connection and always when you got to the other destination like seville or malaga your luggage wouldnt be there because they delayed in tranferring it from madrid. and you were told to wait until the next plane arrived from madrid and it wouldnt come nd then the next and the next all day and you wouldnt get a fanta from tghem for the whole day.s wait. and they never apologized even though they had promised that your luggage would be transferred after an international flite to madrid to the plane you were boarding in madrid for a national desti nation. they are the most expensive and arrogant airline and i never take them anymore and i dont have to because there are alternatives. its fun to get this off my chest!

When I read this post on Iberia--I suddenly got depressed. We are getting ready to fly Iberia from the USA to Spain and back in late September. Also flyinig Iberia from Barcelona to Granda as a side trip.

Has anyone had a good trip with Iberia? Any tips on how to avoid the reported rudeness?

OK, sometime when you read reviews, people get very carried away. Our daughter would agree with most of you because Iberia followed their rules and made her show the credit card with which she booked the flight this summer (Barcelona-Oviedo) She didn't have it, but in the end, they didn't make her and husband buy a second ticket (original threat). She had copy of credit card payment to prove she purchased the tickets.

To brighten the day of those taking Iberia. Jan 1 2004, my husband took other daughter and me to O'Hare for flight to Madrid. The agent there was very sorry to inform us that economy was oversold so we were bumped up to Business Class at no extra charge. So sad! It was wonderful although flight attendants even at that class did not work with charm....but who cares..they supplied so many goodies.

Then when then 20-year old daughter returned 10 days later, we checked in and heard the same message. Economy oversold, you are bumped up...no charge. BTW, we did not hint or push for any of this.

When I returned 20 days later, I did not hear the same message. I was getting used to it so I asked why? The plane was not oversold (late Jan.) and there would be room to lie down and sleep if I choose and unlimited wine and beer, etc. etc. No extra charm though if you are looking for that.

Why we got upgrades.? My guess is that we did make some flights with Iberia during our trip (Madrid-Oviedo and Madrid-Barcelona), but we are not FFs with Iberia. That's why I now prefer Iberia Chicago O'Hare to Madrid. In addition to the fact that Iberia is the only airline who isn't allowed direct flight from Chicago to Madrid.

Ok, does that make some people happier? I hope so.

in addition to their rudeness, and out of line prices, they take the best runway to land in spain at madrid and barcelona and give all other carriers like delta, etc landing runways so far from the exit that you have to take one of the buses to get there. they take advantage of thier priority as a spanish airline.

At least in Barcelona airport, any company uses the same runways to land. There aren't a lot to choose so all aircrafts use the same. Another question is if Delta or Continental or US Airways pay for finger use. As long as I know, at Barcelona airport, Delta board/unboard through finger at terminal A. Also, a lot of Iberia flights have the planes parked on the remote slots so you also have to take the bus.

In the case of Madrid, the new runways are better for the new terminal T4 which is used for Iberia, but also by other OneWorld members. Vueling also uses the new T4.

Butr as a plane spotter, sure I can tell you that Iberia have the dirtiest planes I've ever seen.
