Been to Jerez for 5 days, 5 in Madrid now in Valencia for another day for a total of 4. Although there has been some really good sights and I'm truly trying appreciate the opportunity so many might not be able to have. It's all been a little bland.
The proper Spanish cuisine is a daily search that usually ends up with overpriced pathetic tourist crap. Walks outside where all the good sights are in suburbia until the last day or two you find the local bar, market or restaurant that's got what you've been looking for. Then your too scared to take another punt in case its back to crap. So you eat there every time. Madrid the worst offender. Thank god for San Miguel market but its pricey as well.
Anyhow I don't want to keep dwelling on my failed attempt so far.
I've got 7 days left till I depart from Barcelona to October fest. Please don't let me leave this country with the wrong impression.
I'll arrive in Barcelona from Valencia by train, a rental car didn't cut it cash wise.
I'm fearful Barcelona's going to be a repeat of Madrid with a beach. Great architecture and history but a tourist nightmare.
Is there any where to retreat into the hills around barcelona to to get the feeling like I had in Jerez... Like its the real deal, the foods what the locals would happily eat time and time again. The bar serves the beer for a little under a euro a cup. The tapas are 2 euro or less and the best food you've eaten in years. Not 6+ for some deep fried freezer substance.
Honestly I had to hit myself for thinking I've got 8 days till I'm in Munich again...
