I see that Vueling as a 1 bag, 20kg (44lb) weight limit with 6Euro charge for each additional kg.
Has anyone been hit with this fee or do they let it slide if you are just a kg or two over?

Yes the first time I took the airline. I was five pounds over and was told about the fee. The lady at the check in was nice and waived it but I did see other people paying. They allow you to take on 1Okg of had luggage also.
Carry-on baggage: Passengers may keep 1 piece of baggage in the aircraft cabin weighing up to 10kg and maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm (see baggage). Additionally, passengers can take on board a woman’s handbag or small briefcase, a coat, a cloak or travel blanket, an umbrella or cane, a pair of crutches, a small photographic camera or binoculars.
Thanks.
Similar experiences with AirEuropa, Spanair or Iberia? I see they charge less per kg but Vueling's plane ticket is less so Vueling might be the way to go.
Spanair and Iberia do not have the same limits. This is especially true on all of their flights if you belong to their frequent flier program or that of their partners, US Airways and American Airlines.
Thanks for the reply but...
Looking at the Spanair website they do say that there is a 20kg limit in Ecomony for domestic flights with 5 Euro for excess (per kg??).
Iberia also says they have a 20kg limit in Economy.
Maybe they just don't inforce it or look the other way if you have a American or UsAir/United FF# on the reservation...???
They must since we've never been charged for the additional weight, but then I'm a preferred cardholder of both Iberian and US Airways/Spanair.
European airlines have standard limit of 20kg (except Ryanair which has been 15kg). My experience in the past when I used to fly Barcelona/Uk with British airways (when I paid a lot more for my tickets of course but there was no budget option) was that they were lenient up to about 23kg.
However budget airlines are strict because it's the way they can make some money and I have been charged for the extra kilos, sometimes at more than 6€. Still far cheaper than those old-time flights!
If you were using Spanair, Air Europa or Iberia to connect to US flights you presumably wd be allowed 2 pieces because they are allowed on flights to/from Us but not if this is a separate journey.
Now you know why Europeans go for light-weight luggage!
And note that some budget airlines charge already for first item in hold even (Ryanair, bmibaby that I know of), or for second item even under 20kg total (Easyjet)
Yes, I have been hit, but have to admit that it all depends o the staff at the check-in counter.
Actually, in Clickair and Vueling, I think that the 6 euros applies only if you have previously stated that you will be checking-in bags, because if when making the reservation you state that you will not be checking-in bags, and then you do, the fee is much higher (sometimes more than 20 euros).
Low cost companies are very strict. If there is only 1kg over in you luggage you will have to pay for it. That happened to me with Vueling and Clickair. The problem is that you have to go to another place to pay that supplement and to queue again and when you return you have to queue for the third time. Too much stress...
Lo barato sale caro. :)
A low weight limit (total of all peices) is pretty common within Europe. KLM only allows 20kg of checked luggage and 12 kg of carry-on in coach and British Airways is 23kg of checked luggage.
