hi all

Went to Barcelona early in the year with my brother, went to watch Barcelona play etc

and had a great time. Just ate 'on the move' so eating out was not a priority

In December, i'm taking my girlfriend for a 4 day break and obviously it will be a different but no doubt just as fun.

We are staying at the Hotel Universal so i was wondering if anyone could recommend good places to eat in the evenings?

There is a not too bad restaurant at LA RAMBLA short after you've left Placa Catalunya in direction of Maremagnum. It is not too expensive. You can find it on the right and the name is NURIA.

Hello Tony B, I am sure that your girlfriend is happy that you are sharing this lovely city with her

Here are two web-sites that will help both of you to make some choices.

http://maribelsguides.com) Maribel's Guide to Barcelona advice on arriving in the city.

www.virtualtourist.com some very useful information.

Eating tapas in a bar is still my favorite way of enjoying the spirit and ambience that you will find all throughout the city.

There is still a certain amount of prestige in doing this.

You float from one bar to the next(on a different street). Sip the tap beer or a glass of house wine, while enjoying a tapa that your have chosen from the display.

Many other people will be doing this.

For a good lunch, then I sugggest that you ask for the MENU DEL DIA.

Cost is between 8 -12 euros per person. Three courses. Each course has a variety to choose from. Not many places will have this in English. Carry a translated menu list in your pocket. This will save you problems.

This includes the food, drinks, bread and coffee.

After this, you will only be able to eat a light dinner anyway.

If you insist on going out in style, then go down to the Porto Olimpco. Take a taxi.

This place is nice to walk and look at the many yachts.

The sea food is excellent. As you pass from door to door of each restaurant, someone will insist that you go inside to try their food. Each place will tempt you with a different appitiser for free. It will be free as long as you have dinner at that place.

You will have an enjoyable dinner. The location is just fantastic. If the weather is good enough, then you will be outside. Your girfriend will feel proud of you.

Be prepared to sign 60-100 euros on your credit card.

I have never had a bad meal in Barcelona. I pay for what I get and the surroundings that I have selected. This is the key to spending a fortune or not. They also have some very eclectic CAFETERIAS in BCN. These are also nice clean places with good food.

Bur there is nothing that can be compared to the excitment and fun of eating in a Bar.

The choice should be made by both of you when in BCN.

Untill your girlfriend has been in BCN for a few days and sees waht it is like and how the people live, Then she may not understand this.

She may think that you are being cheap by taking her out to eat in Bar. So dont mention that you are going out to eat in a bar. Let her discover this Spanish tradition by herself. ENJOY!!!

Hello again TonyB, As a realy very special treat,

please look at this web-site, www.virtualtourist.com/vt/430de/5/33ed/

This show is most exciting and entertaining. You dont have to speak Spanish to understand it. A Flamenco dance show is worth every cent that you pay to watch.

ENJOY!

Hello Tony B,

softguides.com/spain/eatingout/eatingout.html

Scroll down to CATLUNYA. Here you will find the typical favorite dishes

to eat in Barclona. If you have time, try them. They are all delicious.

It has the translation in English as well.

Open and search,

Hi tonyB, If you are coming again with your girlfrend, and looking for a dinner and nice time, I could reccommended you the next:

Go for a dinner to the KOXKERA at Marques de Sentmenat 67-69 (the area is nearby El Corte Ingles Diagonal) not very far from the CAMP NOU (BARA FOOTBALL CLUB). The restaurant is very calm, good meat and I can suggest you try any of the excellent desserts "artesanos" (your girlfrend will enjoy it, for sure!), then, 5' walking distance you can go to LA GARRAFA DELS BEATLES(This is the Beatles pub in Barcelona) Joan Guell St.150,if you like THE BEATLES' MUSIC you'll enjoy it a lot, it is a small and frendly pub with a good singers of the beatles' songs. ENJOY IT!!!

If you want somewhere really special, try the restaurant Thai Gardens. It is a must for me whenever I go to Barcelona. They have their own website, so you can check it out before you go.
