Need Itinerary & Hotel Help from Barcelona to Pyrenees to ??

We will be in Spain for 16+ days, leaving May 4th. We will be in Barcelona for 4 days, want to head up to the Dali Musuem on our way somewhere, then to the mountains (we are big hikers), head back down south & then over to the beach.

Any suggestions where to go from Barcelona? Looking to stay in North Easter Spain, spending about 4 nites in each location. Specific towns & preferably small authentic paradores would be appreaciated. Very close to great hiking in one location. We are laid back travelers, like to be immersed in local culture & away from the hustle & bustle of tourists.

One more question - do we need to book hotels other than the one in Barcelona that we've booked already.

We are planning a somewhat similar trip July 2007 from Barcelona north through Cardonna then Parc Estany de Snt Maurici and on to Odessa. Looking for accomodation in Espot. Did you get there and have any recommendation.

Plan your route with the help of www.viamichelin.com & a guide book. We use the Rough Guide & it has taken us all over Spain & gives good descriptions of the small towns.

www.innsofspain.com is a good place to start for accommodation.

http://www.parador.es/ for paradores.

You won't need to book your accommodation in advance at that time of year, but why spend valuable time looking for somewhere to stay when booking on the internet is so easy? If you do decide to "wing it", the local turismos are generally very helpful in finding accommodation.

Pablito, if you click on "Duffrocks" in this post you'll find more posts about this trip as there were quite a few replies at the time (he/she posted more than one query which is probably why this one was "left hanging"). By the way it's Ordesa (Odessa is on the Black Sea!).

Pablito -

Our time spend in the Pyrenees was the best part of our trip to Spain.

We drove around 3 leisurly hours from Barcelona into the Pyrenees to the town of Llavorsi and stayed at Hotel Riberies. Directons were clear & easy to navigate AND a beautiful drive up. Hotel website: http://www.riberies.com/eng/index.php The hotel was so super relaxing, with access to great hiking, rafting, moutain biking, horeback riding - either right off the property or a short drive away. Staff is super friendly and helpful, hotel and rooms are beautiful, great spa, great views and very easy access to outdoor pursuits. If you stay at this hotel - just make sure to ask if there are any large corporate groups booked for the time you'd like to stay - it's a small hotel and the large groups tend to overwhelm it. We were deciding between Bielsa and this hotel and are so pleased with our choice.

Hiking - trails are extremly well marked, easy to navigate, can be as challenging as you chose

Drive a super easy 20 minutes to the town of Espot and continue into Aigüestortes National Park. Hiking possibilities are endless here. Beutiful lakes - 2nd lake is worth the hike up. 2 hours up & 1.5 hours down. Or you can decide to go further.

Drive 20 minutes to villages of Areu and La Forca - absoultely gorgeous views - more trails here.

Restaurant: on your way to Llavorsi from Barcelona in a small town named Gerri de la Sal - Casa Tomas - best meal we had in Spain.

Can't recommend this area enough - the hotel and the area exceeded our expectations! Have fun!

We go to the coastal bit east of Girona and think the hotel Casamar in Llafranc (if you can get a room) the best. Calella and Tamariu pretty good too for the 'beach' part of your visit especially in May when it's pretty quiet. Good luck, Roger
