Salamanca - Enforex Summer Camp for Kids |
|
Does anyone know about Enforex's Summer Camp program for kids? It is offered at the Colegio Calsanz de Salamanca. It is a 2-week program (sleepover or day camp only) for 9 - 18 year olds, where 60% of the students are Spanish kids learning English and the other 40% are international kids learning Spanish. It sounds great, but I haven't been able to find anyone who is familiar with it or Enforex. Also, does anyone have suggestions where a family of 4 could stay for 2 weeks in Salamanca near the Colegio Calsanz de Salamanca? Thank you for any advise or suggestions! |
|
All I can tell you is that the colegio Calasanz is in a beautiful old building, though on a main road. I know they do summer camps there but I haven't a clue as to how good they are. I shall try and find out. There are only flats near the school, not a good idea in the summer. If the day camp offers a bus service you might want to consider an area not far from there ( about five or six minutes by car ) which is across the river in an area called Santa Marta. There you have a selection of either houses or flats with communal swimming pools and gardens. It's a safe area ( as is most of the city )and also cheaper than the centre. If you type in "inmobiliarias de salamanca" on Google you might be able to make contact with some estate agents.

Thank you for your response. I would be very appreciative if you could find any inside information about the summer camp. Since posting, I've received information that Enforex is offering 2 bedroom apartments for 495 euros per week. I thought that seemed like a good deal and the apartments seem adequate. Why do you think the location near the school would not be good in the summer? There is no transportation for camp, so I'd like to be within walking distance.

Hi, That does sound like a good deal! The reason I suggested staying a little distance from the school is that it gets pretty hot here in the summer and most of the locals abandon their winter abodes to settle in their summer houses, perhaps only 10 to 20 km. away, but where the temperatures are slightly cooler. Very near Calasanz is an area called Camino de las Aguas. The flats there are fairly new and there are gardens all around. There are also sports' facilities nearby with a municipal swimming pool all along the river bank. The old part is gorgeous but can get very hot and noisy in the summer. Some of my neighbours send their children to Calasanz so I'll ask them about the summer camp. All the best.
|
Slight correction: The place I referred to as Camino de las Aguas is actually called La Aldeuela. Sorry!

Believe me, I have tried to get some inside information about the summer camp at Calasanz school, but to no avail. I have even asked at work ( I'm a teacher )! I'll keep on trying though!

whatname? - Hello. I'm just following up to see if maybe you were able to find out any more information... Thanks so much!

Five or six years ago I worked at an ENforex Summer Camp in the south of Spain--it was very ill run--the owner seemed interested more in making money than the quality of the experience for the kids. I do not know anything about the Salamanca program. Perhaps over the years, Enforex has improved. I worked for several years in Spain as an English teacher, working for Enforex was my only unpleasant experience in Spain. Salamanca is a wonderful city with many language schools and programs. Salminter Language School and Cursos Internacionales (of the U. of Salamanca) are both reputable schools--I do not know if they offer programs for children but perhaps they could offer a recommendation. GOod luck to you-what a great experience for your family.

Hi trvl2, The neighbour I have asked about Enforex sends her children to Calasánz school , yet she was unable to give me any information other than what we already know, ie. that they run a summer camp. Interesting to hear viajero5's experience though. The university of Salamanca does offer a programme for Spanish children learning English in the summer which might suggest they have one for non- Spanish children too. Please let me know how you get on.

Hi, maybe it's a bit late to follow up on this subject, but I just want to give some information on the Spanish language school SalmÃÂnter that was mentioned. I studied there myself years ago, and still keep in contact with the teachers who run the school. I know they normally take in students from sixteen years and up, but they also do exceptions when, for example, adults come to study together with their children (if they are too young to participate in the groups then they arrange individual classes). They are always very helpful with "special cases" and would surely try to help you finding somewhere reasonable to live during your stay. Good luck.

Thank you for all your responses. I think we are going to go ahead and try Enforex. Their program sounds good, with 3 hours of Spanish classes a day and then camp activities with lots of kids for the rest of the day. I appreciate hearing the negative feedback that they were not too organized, etc. - I will take special notice of these types of things when I am there. I will let you know how it goes, when I get back. Looking forward to visiting the beautiful city of Salamanca! Thanks again!
