looking at the harry ramsdens topic, i noticed that what could have been a nice bar is now a chippy.

I have to say that i think that the price of drinks in some extablishments in las americas, are expensive.

I visited shennanigans one night.

3 vodkas and 3 tonics cost was 18 euros

next round was

3 vodkas and 2 tonics cost was 19 euros

then there is michaels bar, 1 pint of guiness and 1 vodka tonic 10 euros.

i personally think that las americas is pricing its self out of the drinks market.

i can go to the supermarket and buy a bottle of nice lira wine for under 2 euros.

And we now sit on the balcony some nights playing cards and talking drinking my bottle of wine.

i never used to do this, but if i wanted to go out each night i simply couldn't afford it.

Now as well, drinks are now served in a tubo, which is a thin glass. Then they try and cram in 2 massive pieces of ice cubes, some bar people sem to think that they are giving you 150mls. But i'm not to sure, i think that it is more 90ml

Now i know that there are some bars that serve a pint for 1 euro, but at nighttime these bars are few and far between.

I love tenerife and it would never stop me from going, but i do now stay in more on holiday than i ever did.

What is your views.

Got to agree with you lenny,we have been for the last 2 years running and found the prices rising,i normally drink the local bottles,ie, san mig or the equivilant, and found these more exspensive than at home, its the kids pop that is more annoying,we were paying 2.50 euro for a glass of coke in bars with entertainment on,i am not tight by any means but dont like being robbed, and unfortunatly its looking that way in a lot of places.

I know you can get 1 euro pints in some bars, but if i wanted to drink dish water,i would put my head over the sink,if you know what i mean.

Anyway enough moaning 3 weeks on tuesday and i will be over there again saying HOW MUCH.

hi lenny i totally agree with you, we are being ripped off BIG time, we usually have a few dinks before we go out,we stay in los cris which is cheap enough depending on were you go but if we were heading to pla we might as well triple our cost for the night out. We go for a week and try to budget for four good nights out,we eat out every night but try to take it easy drinking wise for the other three nights.. Roll on sept

I go on holiday with a gang of friends to tenerife in march, and they do like a night out and a drink.

Years ago we used to go out every night, a different bar a different act. Sometimes now we sit on the balcony and have a drink, play cards, dominos, even took dvd games this year (mr and mrs) have a laugh and then just turn out around 10.30pm.

In the past we have never done this, we was always dressed and out for 9.00pm.

Bearing in mind when there is a group of around 20 of you, and you want to go to brahams and liste, then you have to get in early to get seats.

But this year we found it much different and quiter at night. Juby also said the same.

I think that people are voteing with there feet.

Take shennanigans for instant, that place was never empty, but it was only half full when my mates were there.

Now i've seen the lads about 5 times, and i've now decided there is only so many times you can watch a show. And to top it all i'm putting 70 euros in a kitty for a night drink. The drink prices have stayed the same this year, but with the drop of the pound i think that bars knew that they couldn't put there prices up.

Mr lenny9 said on a night out, in a bar with entertainment on he was easily going through 60-80 euros.

Now i know that your getting entertainment, your on holiday and your in the sun etc.

But take tonight for instance, i go with my friends to our club. I throw £20 in a kitty for the girls.

That gets me 3 largers, 6 vodkas, 1 open the box ticket, and our bingo tickets (sad i know, but can't be bothered with the fights and stuff out in town now) plus i get 2 shows for that.

With the artist being paid £150 - £200 for there acts.

I dont' know what artists in tenerife charge, but take johnny kelly for example, johnny is elvis, i watched him in the drop in last year, and he was on for 30 mins, looked very uninterested in his act, and then just rushed of the stage to go to his next show, cause he was running late, he didnt' come back and do 1 more song. Now these pubs n clubs can't be paying £150 a night for the 2 acts that they put on.

My biggest gripe is the size of the ice cubes, there flippin massive.

Right that is me moan, over and i'm now just waffling.

Will i be back, yeah of course this nov and next march and so on.

But the price of drinks just spoils it for me, as we now stay in more, where as we used to be out each night.

I agree with you Lenny however you must bear in mind that all of the bars you have mentioned are in major tourist areas. If you bought 3 vodka tonics in London you would get little change out of £15 because that’s what you were paying.

I don't drink but still like to get out and about. Last night with friends we had 2 beers (Dorada - being locals - 0.5 litres - so a pint without the froth) 2 vodka tonics (large tumblers - no ice - slice lemon) and Cola Lite - €12.50.

You can always ask for no ice ... No Hielo.

You must remember it is a totally different mind-set here (dare I say corruption is a way of life unlike the UK where it certainly exists but few talk about it). There are always two prices for everything - one for locals and one for tourists. Just open your wallet and give the barman a quick flash of your UK driving license, shake your head and say Resident.

Your license looks very like my Residencia).

I'm going to throw my tuppence worth in - I know there is a big difference in prices between different bars - and seeing as we are using the Shenanigans example of 18 euros for three VandT - that's 6 euros or about £4.80 per drink - yes a lot for your average pub but I have to agree with Aquilas about comparing it with tourist area - I was in a bar in Edinburgh this week and paid £5 for a Vodka with the mixer on top of that! Shenanigans also serve only Smirnoff and I think its Schweppes Tonic but like the other bars with good entertainment they are slightly dearer.

I note you were saying Lenny that some of the bars weren't so busy, so that's interesting but I did think that the busier bars were more expensive, which kind of makes sense and if all people are interested in is the drink then it would, the same as at home, be cheaper staying in with a bottle of wine.

I don't think, however, that being "ripped off" is the right phrase. Especially as most of us come from "rip off Britain" - just don't get me going on that one! Petrol, insurance, council tax, train fares, a bottle of vodka - to name but a few - now compare all those and ask yourself who's being ripped off.

Personally, we don't usually go with a big crowd on holiday so our holiday is made by being able have a nice meal and then go to a bar to be entertained not just to have a drink.

Will have to bear in mind Aquilas' tip about Residents.

i think the prices are about the same its the massive drop in the pound makes them seem less value eastern europe is opening up to tourists and there are more cheap places to visit now adays may have taken some people off the reef as a result dont get me wrong i would welcome a small drop in prices it all helps

I agree with broadies. We didn't notice much difference in the advertised prices of drinks although the 1 euro pint seems to be in shorter supply. It's the drop in value of the pound against the euro that makes the prices seem higher.

Hi All,

I am slowly becoming addicted to this forum!! We have been going to PDLA for the last 4 years and I have to the say the prices have risen but like anything its inflation...I was in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote for Christmas just gone and I have to say it is alot cheaper for drinks and food but somehow it doesnt live up to Tenerife Standard. I cant Moan as I have just returned from a holiday in Dubai were we paid £13 for a small glass of wine!!!!!! We were in the touristy bar but I have to say that is just a joke!!!! I certainly wont grumble now when I get to The Magic Bar for a malibu and diet coke ready to listen to the soul singer!!! Heaven!!!!!
