 Honeymoon in the Canary Islands...

I am looking at going to the Canary Islands for my honeymoon. What island would you recommend? Tenerife or Gran Canaria? Also, what RCI or Interval World Timeshare resort is the best in the Canary Islands?

I haven't stayed in Tenerife but I have been there on a day trip. I would prefer Gran Canaria for a honeymoon and if you are not in to noise (discos, bars..etc.), keep away from Playa Del Ingles. I would recommend Puerto Rico which is quieter.

I would recommend puerto rico in gran canaria I had my honeymoon there in 1987 and have returned a few times over the years and also have been various times to Tenerife but prefer Gran Canaria as tenerife has gone too commerialised now

Depends what you mean by boring. It has a good choice of restaurants, relaxed bars, good quality accomodation, nice beaches, a lovely new marina, various shops, but no clubs. That may be what you call boring, but for me it's the perfect combination.

Depending on what you want you may be interested in Puerto Mogan on Gran Canaria. It's a lovely resort with plenty of restaurants but not loud music bars like some of the other resorts on the island. There are a few more comments on this site for Puerto Mogan if you do a search.

National Park with one of the largest volcanos in the world as it's centrepiece. In the far north there is the remote & beautiful Anaga mountains where you can find tiny unspolit villages in stunning surroundings. Above Puerto de la Cruz, there are the lovely pine forests of the Orotava valley with plenty of walking trails to enable you to enjoy the scenery. In the west there is another striking area of remote hills and mountains, the Teno hills, which is the setting for the untouched village of Masca, for my money the most beautiful village in the Canaries.

As for these islands being too commercial, I think this is largely due to people visiting only resorts such as Playa de las Americas in Tenerife and Playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria. There are plenty of out of the way places you can stay on both islands but it does take a bit of effort. Puerto del Carmen and Correlejo on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are hardly untouched by commercialism.

As for timeshare resorts, I would say that Anfi Beach Club on Gran Canaria would take some beating.

My favourite islands are Tenerife and Gran Canaria in that order. They both have a far greater variety of stunning scenery than the other islands and Tenerife also has the Teide National Park with one of the largest volcanos in the world as it's centrepiece.
