We booked a hire car on line for our holiday in Fuerteventura through Top Car because they seemed to be kosher (world of TUI) and the cheapest. But when we arrived, instead of the 217 euros to pay that was stated on the paperwork, we were asked to pay an extra 80 euros plus the 200 euro security deposit that people are talking about on this forum. So, almost 500 euros in total. The 80 euros was apparently mandatory to cover the full tank of petrol they were giving us. Tired and eager to get to the hotel, we agreed to this, despite the fact that you would need to spend your holiday going round the island to burn off a full tank of fuel. Things get worse though when you see the price of fuel in Fuerteventura and realise the the car we hired will only hold approx 50 euros worth of fuel on a full tank anyway! So how the 80 euros worth of fuel is worked out, I'm not sure. During the holiday, we joked about whether to choose our favourite holiday rep and offer them the chance to syphon off half a tank of our fuel into their car, just so Top Car didn't benefit! It was just something we had a laugh about, but actually, now I wish we had done it because accidentally we left our brand new camera in the car when we dropped it off and didn't realise till we got home. We rang the same night but guess what? It had not been found, despite the fact that the car had not been re-rented to anyone else yet. Hmmmm. We asked them to double check as we knew we had definitely left it, but when we rang again the next day the story was the same. Will leave you to draw your own conclusions, but let me say that I would not recommend Top Car for a number pf reasons and I am surprised that TUI are putting their name to such an outfit.
