Hi everyone. We will be in menorca for the last 2 weeks in August and I have been offered a home cooked paella with my spanish teacher's family in Majorca (Carmen is married to a Brit but goes home for several weeks in the school holidays) if I go across to see her. I assume she intends this as a day trip so the question is which is the best route in high season and what is the service like? My husband will be able to drive me to and collect me from the ferry but I suspect that his idea that it is a short hop across is over simplistic. Would I be better of taking a flight?

We have looked into this before! It depends on where in Majorca you want to get to. If its the north then it is feesable on the Cuitadella to Alcudia ferry, though be prepared for a long day as it is an early outbound crossing and a late return.

If you want the south of Majorca then the flight wins every time as the ferry crossing is so much longer from Mahon to Palma.

Last year my mrs had a week in Majorca before coming over to Menorca and we found it alot easier to book a one way flight between the islands. In fact, in over 15 years of holidaying in Menorca and occasionaly visiting friends on Majorca we have never once used the ferry.

From memory there are approx 10 flights a day with either air Europa or Iberia (air nostram), Flight time is approx 30 mins and you only need a hour for check in as it's a domestic flight. The fare last year was approx 50 euro one way but the earlier you book............

Hope that helps
