HI! Spanish pensions and hostels owners seldom answer e-mails, they prefer speaking on the phone. I had to do most of my reservations by phone. If you can, just call. Good Luck!!

I don't understand why someone would develop a website with a contact form attached or email and then ignore possible business?

I found the website www.madridman.com very useful for finding the names of pensions in San Sebastian.

As a consumer and with plenty of choice about I really only bother with pensions/hotels that have websites. Those that don't I completly ignore. I also found that those websites that only have phone numbers listed rather than email addresses were also ignored by me.

Another thing. I cannot get over the amount of hotels that spend huge sums of money on flashy websites with arty type flashing pictures when all I want to see are pictures of my hotel /room a decent access map and a clear guide to prices.

You have to understand it is a different culture here in Spain. It is hard to explain on this forum, but least say if they don’t answer then they are usually booked up. But that is not the only reason for not answering. We would also suggest you phone then you will know for sure.

remember that it's the holiday season in August too so I should imagine alot of places are fully booked.

But if a person is trying to book ahead for other months, not just August?
