In Nov. 2011 I went with 6 friends to Spain (using Sun Holiday Tours, with which we were very impressed). VDT was the tour company Sun used for all 8 of our tours -- possibly having no choice, possibly (Heaven forbid!) they are the best of the lot. There are not enough negative words in the English language to express our displeasure with VDT.
First, they pick up at MANY hotels. We had one tour with at least 16 stops, one with 18. They would do so much better if they had vans picking customers up from a few spots and driving to a central location instead of wasting hours of time.
Their tour groups are excessively large, too, making it sometimes difficult to hear what the guide is saying, having a clear shot at a picture, or keeping up with the crowd. Most of our tours had about 50 people, with Seville having 52 and needing explanantions in two languages.
The guides are not customer friendly or always knowledgable: in Marbella we were told there were no public restrooms available, although we had used one (right where we were) a few days earlier. And in Ronda the guide lost people because he wouldn't wait for anyone to put on a raincoat when it started raining.
The absolute worst was Tangier where we started at 6:20 AM, ended over 14 hours later, and were in Tangier barely over 3 hours during which we had a superficial bus tour of the city, had a photo op of the Casbah, saw a snake charmer (tips expected) and otherwise were forced to endure two sales-pitch stops. We also had a mediocre lunch, crammed in like sardines, with exceptionally overpriced water or Coke.
I'd rather visit another country than be forced to take any more tours from VDT.
