Friday at Benalmadena/Arroyo de la Miel.

The market is slightly inland not on the coast so take the train from Torremolinos to Benalmadena and the market is very close to the station.

Torremolinos Market is on a Thursday behind the Town Hall - gives you a bonus of walking through the totally Spanish town and a very different perspective on Torremolinos. Last time I went it was as big as Benalmadena but no produce. Biggest and best by far is Fuengirola on a Tuesday. This also includes lots of low priced fruit and vegetables.

All the markets are selling stuff from the giant containers which dock in Malaga from China. Trading on their cheap reputation prices are often higher than in the Chinese shops around town - particularly in Torremolinos. There has been action by the Guardia Civil on forgeries although some are still around but unless you want some of these the shops may be a better bet than the markets.

Whatever you do only take enough money for what you need with you and keep it safe. Pickpockets are all over the markets which can be very crowded, with people pushing and shoving. Ideal for a quick dip in your pocket.

Should have added that best shopping is in Malaga. Take the train to Maria Zambrano (end of the line) and there is the Vialia centre. Walk through and then up the main road to the Larios Centre. Through that and turning right out of Dunnes brings you to El Corte Ingles and then you can walk across the river to the Old Town and there are loads of good, small shops. You'll be exhausted so go back and see the sights another day, they really are worth it. Much better way to spend a day in those Markets!

Totally agree with Manzana about Malaga, both markets and the old town. Never too sure about the street names but if you do eventually arrive at the real fish / meat / veg market in the middle, it's an amazing experience on its own.
