Thinking of holiday in Malaga

Hi, we are a family of Dad, Mum, 2 sons aged 19 and 12 (our eldest aged 21 will not be coming with us).

We prefer apartments rather than hotels.

Have previously been on holiday to Fuengirola, Tenerife, cala Bona, Cala Millor etc

We don't drive so need an apartment that doesn't require this.

The main things we enjoy are beach, eating traditional Spanish food, trying to speak the local language.

So, the question is can anyone point me in the right direction on a resort that may suit us please?

Many thanks for any help,

Claire.

If you aren't hiring a car then a good place would be La Carihuela which is between Benalmadena and Torremolinos and both are easily reach by walking along the paseo. Its very Spanish and has lots of bars and restaurants and is a highly recommended place. Its also within easy reach of Malaga City by train and that is a great day out.

There are apartments available through holidaylettings.co.uk, or ownersdirect and places to look at would be Palm Beach, Carihuela Park Palace. Have a look around the Torremolinos and Benalmadena forums for more information, look at the top questions on each forum and ask as many questions as you like, there will be lots of people who can help out with more detail of each place.

I'd recommend Benalmádena Costa as your base, you can then use the excellent public transport to see local places.

Benalmádena Costa us twenty minutes from Malaga airport, has a wonderful marina and some of the best beaches in Europe.

There's lots to see and do in Benalmádena besides the beaches, you can stroll and take a refreshment in the recently renovated Paloma Park, see dolphins/sea lions/penguins at the local Selwo dolphinarium, wander round the marina, visit Sealife, if you have a head for heights take a journey up the the mountain on the cable car and watch a fantastic bird/eagle show. There's a "City Sightseeing" bus that enables you to see a lot of the resort, you can hop on/off at the various stops and the ticket is valid for forty eight hours. Whilst looking round the marina, your lads could hire a Segway, a fun way to get around!

You can take a ferry journey to Malaga and Fuengirola, either one way or return.

If you visit Fuengirola again, if you haven't been, take a look at the Bio Parc, a zoo right in the middle of the town.

Your boys may enjoy zip lining, you'd need to take the bus to Marbella, but there is a lot to do for them (more than just zip lining!)

Depending on the time of your visits, water parks close by may be open, there are two locally, Aqualand at Torremolinos, and Parque Acuatico Mijas, both accessible by bus.

There are many self catering apartment web sites, which ceejayblue has mentioned.

In the evenings there are presently a few entertainment bars open, then there are numerous international restaurants for when you don't want to eat in, and many bars just serving drinks too! (Lots open during the day as well)

What time of the year would you like to stay?

Hope that helps a little!

Duquesa area. Port plus marina. And the two nearby towns: sabinillas and Castillo de la Duquesa. Ideal if you won´t be driving. Lots of eating choices and kilometres of beaches. It doesn´t get as packed as other areas and not full of drunk people around.

Alvaro, if the OP aren't hiring a car it could be quite expensive to get transfers and or a long trip on the bus service but I do agree its a lovely place.

Well, they can come by bus: www.avanzabus.com

Anyway, transfers to Duquesa cost around 80-90 euros which is more than a transfer to Benalmadena or Marbella but maybe you can compensate that with cheaper accommodation prices.
