We are making a stop here on our cruise is the town within walking distance of the cruise ship and if so what is there to do in the town? Is there a beach? debating whether to do the Marbella trip or stay in Malaga.

Many thanks

Hi there

How long is your stop? Malaga is a City with over half a million people and one of the oldest cities in the world!

Picasso the artist was born here as well as actor Antonio Banderas lol

For information on Malaga and what there is to do just check out the link on the left hand side of this page. It really depends on your interests as to where would suit you best, but yes, there is a beach in Malaga and the City Centre is not far away.

Marbella will take you around 2 hours to get to.

Stay in Málaga, plenty to do for your day and you won't waste time travelling. You can walk from the Cruise Terminal through the new seaside Muelle Uno shopping and eating area into the city centre, or there is a shuttle bus service.

The centre is compact and walkable, lots to see and lots of excellent places to eat, from full lunch to tapas - this thread has some great up-to-date recommendations eatswise:

I'd stay in Malaga City for sure , yes there is a beach and the Muelle Uno located in the Port of Malaga, near the Farola lighthouse is worth a visit ,the beach is 5 mins away from there and from the Dock .

Directy across from the Port gates is the Cathedral, the Alcazaba, and part of Gibralfaro Castle. That area has 100's of good bars restaurants all within walking distance .

Malaga is a far more interesting destination than Marbella and is very pedestrian friendly!

Depending on where your ship berths you can either walk into the old city within 15 minutes or take the shuttle buses provided.

Visit the spectacular Cathedral, Castle, Alcazaba, Museums, narrow streets full of excellent Tapas Bars, Restaurants and Shops plus the Malagueta Beach and, as already recommended, the new Muelle Uno leisure developement actually in the Port.

You will have a great day.

I would take the bus from the cruise terminal to the Plaza de la Marina.

Distance from cruise terminal to Plaza de la Marina – 1.8 km – Plaza de la Marina has a tourist office where one can get all the information about Malaga. This plaza is at the foot of Calle Larios, the heart of downtown, with many shops. Many cruise lines provide buses from the cruise terminal to the gates of the port, next door to the Plaza de la Marina.

Hi we visited Malaga for the first time from a cruise stop with NCL a couple of years & loved the city. It is very easy to walk to the centre from the port, 15 mins max, so no need to take any transport or pay for expensive excursions.

We visited in April & the weather was lovely.

There is plenty to see all within walking distance.

Yep, it would be silly to take the bus as then you miss Muelle Uno. The distance isn't 1.8 km walking, that's the road distance.
